My kid doesn't have a cold and I am constantly sucking snot out. He absolutely hates it, and I am always shocked by the sheer size of the boogers that come out of his tiny little nose. Poor guy.
I bought Baby Mist Saline Spray and spray it in DS's nose first, wait a minute, and then suck out the snot. DS still doesn't love it, but it seems to loosen up the mucus and I get a lot more out. DS seems a lot happier afterwards.
buy the battery operated nasal aspirator by graco. I was first upset that my husband spent $20 dollars on it, but it is well worth it. My LO doesn't even mind me using it. IT is great cause he now has a cold and I can actually help him out a bit.

Where did you buy it from?!?
Walmart carries the BeBe one for $20! My baby doesn't cry when I use the electric one at all. I use saline drops first, wait a minute, then use the aspirator. Works like a charm!
