I've tried cutting food she likes (squash, zucchini, bananas, bread, etc.) into little pieces, mushing it, etc. Every time, she gags and/or vomits. But she eats puffs and cherrios 2 at a time. I don't get it! Help!!!
Keep offering the veggies and fruits. try some meats, give her what you eat... if it were me, after about 2 weeks of her rejecting everything other than puffs/cheerios, I'd see the dr. Maybe he/she will have tips, or can refer to a nutritionist for their tricks.
DS was exactly like this until he was 10 months! He refused purees and so we moved onto BLW/table food/finger food early on. But even after he learned to mash and chew food, he kept projectile vomiting even though it looked like it should have gone down okay. It was concerning me since I googled and some sites said he could start to have a negative association with food. Anyway, I started to give him some water or formula or juice while he was eating. I think things were too dry and were causing him to gag/vomit. Now he can eat things without vomiting (or gagging unless he put way too much in his mouth). He still doesn't eat a lot, but at least he tries now. Oh and for a while, he reverted back to putting things in his mouth, chomping them, then spitting it out instead of trying to swallow. He eventually started to swallow. Supposedly once they learn to chew, it's supposed to help them swallow/not gag... I think DS's chewing skills accelerated faster than relaxing his gag reflex.
Re: WWYD- 9mo DD loves puffs, hates purees, but gags on any other food
