2nd Trimester

DH Vent

Tonight DH and I met some friends out for dinner.  They all had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner while I drank cranberry juice and soda water.  Not a big deal.  Well, then we go to this bar next door, and he proceeds to drink about 3 bourbon and cokes.  Then the friends want to go to yet ANOTHER bar and DH has two more bourbon and cokes.  And of course our friends are drinking also.  So, by the end of the night, DH is hammered and I'm incredibly tired and irritated.  Is it just me, or does anyone else find it really annoying to be the one watching everyone get drunk around them?  Not that this happens a lot.............in fact it's only the second time it's happened since I got pregnant..............but I could have really done without DH getting hammered and obnoxious tonight.

Re: DH Vent

  • Eh..It doesnt bother me. I used to be DD all the time. I love watching drunk people because I get to laugh at them.

  • My DH doesn't drink, but if he did I don't think I would care. I'm all about having a good time =)

  • Baby #4 here...this is one of my biggest pet peeves.  Come on people...it is no fun to be the sober one.  Tonight we went to my staff Christmas party and the hostess said to my DH, "Your wife is much more fun when she isn't pregnant!"  I couldn't agree more....
  • Nope, I don't have a problem with it. Maybe I'm just weird though. But we don't go out to bars much.

  • It isn't just you. I was DD three nights in a row last weekend (we had a lot of Christmas parties that happen to fall on one weekend). Anyway, I don't mind being DD or people getting drunk, but when I'm exhausted at midnight and say it is time to go, but they continue to order drinks and promise that THIS one will be the last one, I start to get super cranky. It isn't as much fun staying at until 3am (which we did 2 out of 3 nights) when you are 19 weeks pregnant. I just wanted to be in pjs and in bed.
  • I agree with pp, I'm okay with it until it starts getting late and I'm tired and DH is still going.  Granted I used to stay out until 3 easily, but without alcohol to fuel that it just doesn't happen anymore.  I have at least one friend who doesn't drink, so I spend most parties with her and it's okay, but I have to admit it makes me jealous when DH drinks.  He's at least good about not doing it around the house anymore, just at social events.

  • I like to have fun just like the next person, but sometimes it stinks to be the DD.  I am not a big fan of it.  A few years before we got pg, DH and I talked about this, and he said that he wouldn't drink while I was pg.

We really aren't big bar people for 2 reasons, 1), we hate smoking (although there are now anti-smoking laws, 27yrs old feels too old to start getting into the bar scene).  2) We like at home parties better.  Alcohol is cheaper, no need for DDs (neighbors just walk home), and mixing drinks is fun too!

But I don't care as much as I thought.  If DH wants a beer, he asks if I mind, and I don't (b/c I am goign to steal a sip too).  but he isn't drinking to party or get drunk, so I don't care.  Now if it were a party, I probably would mind, but not once has that come up since BFP.  So we shall see

  • I would be really annoyed if it happened all the time. But I don't mind it at all when its rare. Heck, we used to rotate being DD pre-pregnancy if someone needed to drive so its not like this is my first time.
  • I agree with people. ?I really only get pissed if it's late or if DH is getting too drunk. ?He really annoys me in general when he's too drunk. ?This actually just happened last weekend at a friend's Christmas party. ?In your situation I would have been annoyed probably. ?I like hanging out with my DH and friends, I don't like being their babysitter and just tagging along to be a dd (or to feel like this).
  • no it doesnt really bother me, i like the fact that im still out with my husband and our friends. but yes i can see how u can get irritated! just let him know how u feel so it doesnt happen again!! good luck! ?

This was it exactly.  By the time the 1 a.m. and the 3rd place rolled around, I was super exhausted after a full day of Christmas shopping and a full night of watching people (particularly DH) get drunk and promising "Just one more and we can go......."  I was fine up until I "hit my wall."  Once that happened, I was incredibly annoyed and ready to go home.

Oh, well.  I'm over it now.
