Two Under 2

#2 is Breech....questions

Now that I am facing the possibility of having a c-section...I'm looking for input!! Anyone have a C/S for #2 have some advce or thoughts for me? I know I have some time for the baby to flip (I'm 36 weeks)...but I'm wondering how much I should do to help her (as in go the hospital w/OB to have her manually flip baby or try a chiropractor, etc).

#1 isn't even walking yet (he's about 13 months)...so the thought of not being able to pick him up for weeks and weeks would be really difficult. We have no family in the area...so our moms would have to stay as long as I need them...and I have no ideas on how long that would be.

Thoughts, advice, personal experience?

Anything would help...TIA!!!!!!!

Re: #2 is Breech....questions

  • Well, for me, #1 AND #2 were both breech and I had 2 c-sections. Then, I had to have a 3rd c-section for #3 because I was not allowed to VBAC after 2 c-sections.

I opted out of having and ECV (version) to turn my kids. They didn't give me good odds because I carry small and don't gain a lot of weight (24lbs with each girl and 18 with DS).

I found out at 37-38 weeks that the girls were breech both times, so there really wasn't a chance for them to turn. They were both head up, feet down (basically the hardest position to turn), so they weren't going anywhere.

You are luckier than me in that you have your mom/MIL that CAN stay with you after the c-section. I didn't have anyone and I did manage to do it just fine.

I lifted my kid(s) after 1 week. My OB told me to just take it easy and listen to my body......

GL! LMK if you have any other questions.

  • An External Version (manually flipping the baby) was not for me.  Way too many risks, not enough successes.  So I had a c-sec with #1 and then a repeat c-sec with #2 (she was not breech).  Though she was breech up until right around 36 weeks, then flipped.

Though they say you're not supposed to lift anything over the baby for 6 weeks (or something crazy like that!) I was lifting DS by the end of the first week after DD was born.  I was feeling great and did not feel a strain from lifting him.  YOu will just have to listen to your body.  Everyone heals at different rates.  I had my mom come stay with me for 2 weeks after we got home from the hospital and I was feeling great by the end of that first week.

C-sections are not bad AT ALL!  If you have to have one, don't worry!  Just listen to your body during the healing process and you'll be fine.

  • #2 was also breech but she flipped at 37.5 weeks.  It can happen still, GL.

eta:  I did pelvic tilts, swimming with stretching and drank tons and tons of water.

  • FWIW - I picked up my 17 month toddler.

    I just had to.

Didn't have any problems.  Give it a try when you feel ready - just lift with your knees instead of your stomach/back.

    My best adivce for sections:

    1.  WALK as soon as they'll let you.  Even if it's uncomfortable try to make at least one lap every time they encourage you to.  I didn't walk with my first section, did with my second and noticed a big difference in how fast I recovered.

    2.  Take the pain meds.  No brownie points for skipping it.  Stay on top of the meds by watching the clock.

    3.  Colace, colace, colace.  Start it before you even go into the hospital.  Ask for prune juice (I drink it super cold to help with the taste) as soon as you're allowed fluids.

When you do finally go - holding the incision helps.

In fact holding a pillow over the incision helped with things like laughing too.

    4.  Ask specifically if the baby can stay with you after delivery.  My first was taken away but with my second he was by my side in DH's arms as they finished my procedure.  I liked that a lot better.

I've done the section thing twice and really don't think it's all that bad!

    GL to you!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • Read up on versions to decide if it's for you.  I had one with DS#1 and I wouldn't do it again.  If you decide to do it, take pain killers before hand.  I think because you've already had a baby, it's slightly more likely that the version could be successful.

Not sure if I'll have a c/s with #2 yet.  C/S really aren't bad.  Just take it easy for the first week or so.

  • My DS was breech and we opted not to do a version because my fluid was low and there was a low chance it would work.

C/s wasn't so bad the first time, but I am considering VBAC for second just because I was laid up for a while afterwards and my DH will be away at police academy so I'm on my own this time!
