Pregnant after a Loss

s/o wine... (clicky)

what?s your take on it?

I was blown away by the number of people who think drinking is okay during pregnancy from this post on 2nd tri, especially the girl who is 13 weeks and has already had several glasses of wine and champagne on Thanksgiving...

Maybe I?m alone on this but after all the sh?t I?ve been through to even get this far, I wouldn?t dare do anything like this to mess it up. How about you?

  • I haven't had any so far and probably won't.  Because when I want it (like my bad day today - see below post), I want A LOT more than a glass...so I choose to eat excessive amounts of ice cream instead.

  • I'm not taking any chances. I think after going through a loss, it makes you a bit more mindful and perhaps more cautious...
  • I wouldn't begrudge anyone a sip here or there, but I wouldn't want the guilt and worry if I did indulge.

    Same here.

  • I had a few glasses in third tri with DS and would maybe do it again. My OB had actually suggested it because my BP would rise really high when I got stressed, and I couldn't seem to relax. It was basically mini panic attacks. A 1/4 to 1/2 a glass was enough to kinda take the edge off and help me calm down. She said it was definitely safer than taking a med. and that since my DS was already pretty much through the developmental stuff and just putting on weigh it wouldn't cause problems. I think I only resorted to this 3 or 4 times though.

  • No way! I've worked too hard to get where I am with this pregnancy. I haven't even had caffeinated coffee this pregnancy!!
  • No way, the heart burn alone would kill me.
  • I haven't had any and am really not much of a drinker normally, so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.  The other day I was thinking that I might have a small glass of champagne on Christmas though.
  • With DD, I had 1/4 glass on my birthday (red wine).  I was in the 2nd tri with her.  I also had a few sips here and there when I wanted to.

This year, I'll still be in 1st tri on my birthday (tuesday), so I'll be skipping it altogether.

My MW had no problem with it, and she actually drank full glasses of red wine in her 3rd tri.  I'd never be comfortable enough to do that, but I don't feel guilty having 1/4 of a glass later on in the pregnancy, even with my loss.

My European friends don't even blink an eye when it comes to wine during pregnancy.

  • We went to a holiday party last Saturday and I nursed one glass for about 2 hours. It was plenty, it took the edge off trying to mingle with a bunch of folks who were getting progressively drunker, but that's plenty for me. I can live without it.

  • I had several sips of DH's beer last night and I had a glass of alcohol removed wine (less than .5% by volume).

  • I didn't have a sip of alcohol from the day I ovulated until a week after I delivered and I wouldn't have done it any differently. The way I see it, it's not necessary for me to have it so why risk it? I don't NEED wine, even though some days I might think I do, so there's no reason to put my baby at risk just to indulge a little. I found other ways to indulge instead! It doesn't bother me when other people do it, but I personally can't do it.

  • I hate wine so its a no for me. However I don't judge people who do it. I don't get wound up about what other people do. Its their business. If I didn't think wine was so gross then I might have a glass every now and then.

THIS!  I took one sip of wine at Thanksgiving - like, barely a taste, not even enough to swallow - and immediately my tummy told me BAD IDEA.

I don't see the point in taking that particular risk.
