I really hope the baby and mama are ok but this is her body saying STOP IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
believe me, i'm not for having 19 kids, but gall bladder issues (which they are saying caused the premature birth) can happen to anyone. first pregnancy or 19th
Yep, gallbladder issues can happen to anyone, and I've heard that it's really very painful. She was medivac'd from NW Arkansas to Little Rock yesterday in case they had to deliver the baby early, since LR has a better NICU, and I guess they did the c-section during the night or early this morning.
I don't mind Josie as a first name. I knew a Josie-Anne when I was younger. I think I prefer Josephine, nn Josie. Brooklyn is totally NMS, but I think Brooke is nice.
I know gall bladder problems can happen to anyone and can complicate pegnancy for anyone, but I agree with Kristen0709. Maybe it's a sign for them to JUST STOP. Flame away, but I personally feel that having that many kids is irresponsible, regardless how debt-free and frugally they live.
Flame away, but I personally feel that having that many kids is irresponsible, regardless how debt-free and frugally they live.
No flames, but why is it irresponsible? I don't understand that part. If they're all well taken care of (which IMO they are), they're well-mannered, polite kids, I don't understand how it's irresponsible of them.
Now mind you, I've never seen the show, but I can't think each and every one of those children get significant quality time with mom or dad. My guess is that the older ones take care of the younger ones a lot. Think about how much you love to cuddle your own little ones, and how important that one on one time is (especially if you have two LOs!). I spend at least an hour or two a day just cuddling and talking to A. Now imagine you had 19 children. Giving each child even 30 min of one on one time would take up nearly a whole waking day, and that leaves room for little else like laundry, cleaning, groceries, cooking, etc. I doubt those fall by the wayside in that house - if they did, they probably could not function. Sure the kids help out but I still can't see how they do enough to give the mom enough time for quality, uninterrupted time with each kid.
I just happen to think it's irresponsible (for lack of a better term) to have so many kids you can't give them each plenty of good quality time each day.
I'm with CollieJade. I don't know what to call it, but there's just something not quite right about them! Weird I tell you. Polite or not, those kids are WEIRD.

This. The weird part doesn't even bother me. I think parents should be able to put in so much time for each child, which to me is impossible for 18 kids.
Oh, and here's something else flameworthy - I think it's environmentally irresponsible. This country and our consumerist lifestyle creates HUGE waste. With the overpopulation as it is, it just seems like they're creating exponentially more waste than the average family. Do they recycle? I bet they don't cloth diaper. I know they buy all used stuff and that's good, but just the amount of trash 20 people create in a day (not to mention diapers) is horrendous.

Well then I'm incredibly irresponsible too. I don't CD, I don't recycle, and I plan on having at least 2 more kids, which will only add to the overpopulation and waste in the world. Darn.

haha my husband would totally be on your side here...we get into these little arguements all the time (mainly because I come from a large family and my crazy sister now has 6 kids under the age of 6) - I kind of have the same perspective as Libby and Rosie on this one - as long as the kids are loved and taken care of, and they're able to financially provide for all the kids, I don't see a problem. My DH agrees with you and he always uses this arguement. So I understand what you're getting at!
Libby I don't think having 3 or 4 kids and not recycling/CDing is terrible! Heck, we only recycle glass and plastic ourselves. I think having 19 freaking kids without regards to your environmental impact is irresponsible. The fact that you have THAT many in ONE household must create an exponential amount of waste.
I could be wrong here, though. Like I said I've never seen the show, so if the duggars really are green then I will stand corrected.

I'm not saying I disagree - I'm sure they create a lot of waste. But at the end of the day do I think they're irresponsible? No. Not at all. I don't think that choosing to have kids is irresponsible if you can love them, take care of them, live without debt, and have well behaved, polite kids. They obviously can handle themselves and honestly that ONE household, as big as it may be, isn't going to make or break the environment.

True, but unfortunately when EVERYONE has this same attitude, that's where our environmental problems become a big issue. I think in general it's not that big a deal for people to only pick and chose the "green" things they do - like I said we don't recycle everything, I'm bad about remembering mt grocery green bags, etc. I just think when you have a large, large family like that, it's important not to rely on the rest of the population to do their part and yours, too. I'm not going to fault one of my BFFs for not recycling or noty CDing, but last I checked she wasn't planning on having 19 kids, either.

I'm glad that they're all loved, cared for, etc. It makes me happy to see a big loving family. But I've seen the show and I've seen their trash containers. And I agree with what CJ said about the overpopulation issue. From a purely ecological perspective, it is irresponsible. But so is thinking that just one household, no matter how small, isn't going to make or break the environment. IMO, that's what got us into this environmental mess in the first place. But I think at the end of the day if we can all honestly say we tried our best, then I suppose that's all anyone can ask.

It's the same kind of stats for water usage. When I first moved to TX and we were under water restrictions there was a Catfish Farm that was using something like 50% of the water supply! Residental use was actually a very small % of use but we were the ones that got restricted the most. I don't know if that's true in Austin.

Wow! Most of those look like power plants of some sort, right? So being the devil's advocate here, those guys are creating power for people...and since the Duggars probably use an obscene amount of electricity (more than the average household), wouldn't you say that the Duggars have some sort of impact on this? The more people you have in your household = the more electricity you are going to use, and thus the more waste these companies are going to produce?
I think that before we point the finger at the Duggars and call them "environmentally irresponsible" we need to take a hard look at ourselves and our culture and examine how truly "environmentally responsible" we are being. I know plenty of families of 4 that are much more environmentally irresponsible than the Duggars, but why aren't we saying anything about them? The reality is that most middle class Americans live in houses much bigger than they NEED and waste energy heating and cooling those homes. And, I am one of those people. We opt for convenience and don't count the environmental cost. When was the last time you or I went to Goodwill to buy an outfit instead of hitting the mall? I know I don't do that. I would much prefer something new instead of used. I guess what I am trying to say is that the Duggars make an easy target because they have such a large family, but the reality is that I am probably just as environmentally irresponsible as others claim they are being. It's just not as obvious. I think it's time for me to look at myself instead of judging them.
I used to be a little suspicious of the Duggars, but after watching the show a few times and doing some reading up on them, I think they're ok. The younger kids actually do seem to get a lot of quality time with the parents. If any family is going have 19+ children, I'd rather it be them than people like the octuplet mom who just "wants a lot of kids" but can't afford to care for them.
As far as the environment concerns, first off, not every family is 19 members strong and second, as Mrs.Rosie pointed out there are way bigger fish to fry as far as environmental concerns.

I hope everything turns out okay for the baby
Momma had been having gallbladder issues.
I wish everyone a speedy recovery!!!
glad this one has a normal 1st name, but that 2nd name is a doozy. Yikes.
Hope the baby is ok! Maybe they'll stop having babies now...
I love the name Brooklyn! Josie not so much. And ditto... hopefully this will be a sign that it's time to stop. How old is Mrs. Duggar now?

I'm not sure. I think sometime in March? I read somewhere that she was only 26 weeks or so, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

The name Josie is a blessing compared to some of the other kids names! Jinger makes me cringe.
I hope the baby does well! BTW, when you google "How old is Michelle...", it suggests Duggar before Obama. That makes me laugh. Michelle is 43.
I hope Mother and Baby are okay! That is just so tiny
Josie is just alright. I don't dislike it for someone else's child ...
Brooklyn I actually really like. I wouldn't name my daughter that because it probably wouldn't fit, but I like it.
