Anyone's heart race?

I had this issue with my DD but not this early in the pregnancy. When I would lie on my right side my heart rate would go up so high - I think the highest we were able to measure was 137 bpm but that was a while ago. I would get shortness of breath along with it. It usually stopped after a few minutes or a change in position and it was worse in the morning time. It's happening again with this pregnancy. I saw a cardiologist last time but he was a quack and literally told me he didn't know what the problem was and not to worry about it. Did anyone else experience this? I am a little more concerned this time because I am taking Lovenox injections and I'm not sure if that would be an issue.

Re: Anyone's heart race?

  • I have been experiencing this and was told to lay on my left side to improve circulation.  I also got the following in my weekly BabyCenter email:

Why am I supposed to sleep on my left side?

There's no harm in sleeping on your right side, but lying on your left side or tilted to the left is the best way to ensure proper circulation. It takes all the pressure off of the vena cava ? the vein that returns blood from your lower body to your heart. This vein runs along the right side of your spine and may be compressed by your growing uterus when you sleep on your back. Compression of the vena cava can cause decreased blood flow to the placenta and baby. If you end up flat on your back in the night, don't panic: Women who do suffer from a compressed vena cava will likely unconsciously shift positions in their sleep to take the pressure off the vein, says Dr. Mark Taslimi, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, California.

had the same thing... hr would get over 150bpm.  also on lovenox shots, but don't think that contributed at all.  had been on lovenox through 2 ivf cycles, and all through pg.  the racing heart started in 2T, maybe at 19-20wks.  cardiologist fitted me with a halter monitor for 24hrs, and OF COURSE it didn't happen during that time... just a few spikes.  i delivered at 33 1/2 wks, and i would say that this problem actually got better (didn't go away) toward the last couple weeks.  bizarre.

was told to get off my feet... lie on left side if possible.

    good luck!

  • I had a high heart rate for probably the entire 3rd tri.  When they would montior the babies they always ended up having to put a monitor on my heart rate as well, otherwise they would pick me up as one of the babies.  Just something to be aware of if you're seeing someone that isn't used to you having a high heart rate.  There were several times they thought they were monitoring a baby and come to find out it was me.  I saw a cardiologist and did an EKG but everything was fine.  It went back down as soon as the babies were born.
  • so happy to hear others are having this problem - though it is scary to have it! I have been having this issue since Nov. I wake up with a heart rate of 115! I usually have a super low heart rate. It really scares me but Dr said it is increased blood volume for the twins causing it.

Sometimes I get so lightheaded and my legs get all wobbly too, it is not fun!
