Our contract says 13 paid weeks, as long as we have the sick days to cover this, and any additional time is not paid. This is even if we have the extra sick days.
I am not working and not planning to find a job until August at the earliest, so that will be 4 months. Timm gets 6 weeks paid by diability. His company doesn't offer anything. But they are guaranteeing that his job and route (he delivers beer for Coors) will be there upon his return.
If I were to get pregnant while still on disability I'd get 6 months. If I get pregnant after I go back to work I'll get 4 months, but I can really take as much as I'd like. I'll probably take 4 months off completely and then go PT on weekends until the kid is in pre-school.
By our contract, teachers get 6 weeks of paid leave (8 weeks for a c/s), if they have the sick days to use. We can then take an additional 6 weeks that would be unpaid as a part of FMLA.
The crappy thing about our unpaid leave is that the board of ed. takes our salary and divides it by the number of contract days we work (180) even though we get paid year round. That ends up being a rather large chunk of money per day, which adds up.
Fortunately, I don't think I'll need to use the FMLA leave since my due date is so close to our summer break. ::crosses fingers::
I only get FMLA. No paid leave-we have to cut them a check for benefits so at least it's subsidized. I am just guaranteed a position when I return in 12 weeks.
I'm going to do a little more research (AKA ask new mommies) once we tell everyone, but this is what I know so far. We get 6 weeks paid maternity leave (8 for c-section,) 2 weeks parental leave (they started this a couple of years ago so the daddies get time off) and I can take an additional 4 weeks under FMLA. Those 4 weeks can be unpaid or you can use your vacation. I'm not sure if we can use our sick time though. For next year, I'll have 2 weeks sick and 3 weeks vacation, so if I can use the sick, that's awesome, but I'm not too optimistic about that. If you can get approval, you can take a total of up to 6 months off. With the crappy economy, the company has been more generous with women to take the additional time unpaid. Unfortunately, since Brian is more than likely getting laid off next month, any unpaid time off won't be an option for me.
I have 16 weeks paid maternity leave and up to a year off at 60% pay. DH has 4 weeks paid paternity leave.
Barbara, I am so freakin' jealous. That is absolutely amazing.
I know that is awesome, I need to move to Europe or Canada!
In CA i got 12 weeks paid at 60%, I think I could have gotten 4 also before the baby at 60% but didnt use it. The 60% doesnt have taxes taken out so it feels like a little more than that.
Thanks for sharing girls. I was been nosey because of how our contract reads. Since the baby is due in the summer, I questioned as to why my maternity leave needs to start in the summer and not the first day of school. They stated that how the contract is worded now, the maternity leave begins as soon as the baby is born, as long as you don't leave earlier.

6 weeks unpaid. NYC schools suck.
I can't wait to not ever have to go back there.
