What to do about DS's razor-like nails?

This kid is scratching the crap out of himself and anyone who comes into contact with him. His nails are short, but sharp. Is there anything other than taping gloves on him that might help?

I cut K's completely off - she really doesn't have nails. If she did she'd scratch the hell out of me while nursing.

Hmmm, are you able to maybe pull back the finger part so that even a little bit of just his nail is exposed so you can try and file it that way? I hate dealing with the nails. I loathe cutting them.
