How long does induction typically take?

I am likely being induced on 12/21. (My doctor feels confident that it will be a successful induction because I am already progressing). How long does the process usually take from start to finish? I'm asking because I really want to have her on that day, not the 22nd, if possible (I'm a weirdo about dates). Thinking maybe I should ask my doctor to schedule me to come in really early that day?

    There is no clear answer to this question. I've known people to be in labor after induction for two days, and I was in labor for less than six hours with my induction (my first son).

    It really just depends on how ready your body and the baby are. I was induced and it took two days :(

    I'm lurking but I might be helpful. The hosp. my dr. works through requires all scheduled inductions come in at 6am. The L&D nurses (and my dr.) told me to expect 12-18 hours for my 1st. with that said, I was supposed to be induced on a wednesday but when I went in on tuesday my amniotic fluid was low, I was still at 3cm so my dr. sent me over to the hosp. straight from his office. From the start of the pitocin to the last push I was just at 9 hours. The dr. & nurses were surprised how quickly it went. My BFF was just induced at the end of Oct. for her 2nd child. There is an 8 year gap between the kids, her induction from start to finish was just at 10 hours. It really depends how well you react to the pitocin and how quickly you progress through out the process. GL to you :-)

    Depends.  I was induced on 3/11 and had my baby by c/s on 3/13.  I believe they called it failure to progress.

    My sister started induction meds with her first little girl and 8 hours later she was holding the LO. With her second pregnancy she started the induction meds, waited 35 hours and ended up being sent home with no progress. A few days later they tried the induction meds again and still nothing so they ended up scheduling a c-section. My point is, everyone is different, every pregnancy is different. There's just no way to tell.

    My sister had to be induced 2 or 3 different times before the 3rd one worked ... and her daughter STILL had to be pulled out with forceps.  Of course, this was 11 years ago, and she was 9 days overdue, so maybe things are different now?
