crusty nasty baby eye wwyd?

LO's right eye is constantly crusty and was even glued shut when he woke up this morning. I'm constantly washing his face because of it, and I don't know why it's happening or why it's just the one eye but it's miserable.

anyone have this issue? Or know a way to take care of it? I'm just so sick of making him cry by wiping it, and honestly I'm sick of my kid looking dirty all the time.

TIA

  • We have the same problem. Pedi said keep it clean and massage tear duct. It may be a blocked duct.
  • Loading the player...
  • Warm compresses and wipe every 3 hours, using a different clean side of the cloth for each eye.

If it is something that has been ongoing, I would call his doc.

  • Could be pinkeye .  (Is the white part pink?)

Otherwise, the pharmacy sells saline wipes for little eyes that are pretty effective.

  • had the same question today and was told that it was a blocked tear duct.

my doc said to put cool compresses on it...massage gentle from outside to inside on lower part.

  • Peyton's just cleared up this past week & she has real tears now.  She had one eye that she had trouble with since birth.  We just did the warm compress when it was bad.

  • It is probably a blocked tear duct.  If the crud is yellow it could be infected.  The pedi could give you some drops.

  • I massaged DS between his weapy/crusty eye and his nose (the side of the top of his nose). I just did it every time I noticed it. It had been the same for a couple weeks and cleared up within days of massaging it.

  • My niece had this and it was a blocked tear duct. I would massage it gently as previous posts suggested.
  • Once you clear the eye, try to check and see if there is redness on the eye itself. DS had this, and the pedi first thought it was a blocked duct, but then saw redness and prescribed some drops. It cleared up right away.

  • Its a blocked tear duct my ds had it too. You have to wipe it clean (alll the time) and massage very gently at the inner corner of the eye where the tear duct is with a warm damp washcloth. My ds's just went away a few weeks ago.
