I'm getting all 4 of mine taken out next month (they're impacted, obviously). How long was the "recovery" and do you think I will want help around the house for a day (or two)?
Its been over ten years for me but I remember sleeping the whole day after I got home. I think you will definitely want some help that day if not the next.
mine was a good 2-3 days but I was in college and the pain killers and I didn't get along but something tells me it had to do with my drinking problem and not so much anything else. I also had a dry socket so I was a class A biatch for a week or so. I would say ask for help just to have it but if you do fine with anesthisia and pain killers you should be fine with DH around.
I had all 3 of mine removed at once (the 4th never came in). It took me about 3-4 days to recover (was fully functional after 2). I'm also a total wimp when it comes to pain. I would say you could use help the first day so you can rest.
Mine were taken out at 16. I slept most of the afternoon but was totally fine by dinner. My brother, had his out at 35, and he took 2 days to recover. I am sure it depends on how impacted they are, how you tolerate pain, lots of factors...but, yeah, I'd get some help for at least a day.
Yes. I had 3 impacted wisdom teeth removed at once and needed to sleep the rest of the day. Also- I am a general dentist and I know that patients like to rest after even a simple extraction. You may need some pain medication like Vicodin or Tylenol 3 in which case you will need help with your kids. Are you going to have I.V. Sedation? If so- you will need someone to drive you to and from the appt. Hope it goes well!
I had all four of mine out at once and I was good the next day.. My mom helped with my LO she was only a month and half old when I got them out and I slept an pumped while my mom watched her... it wasn't too bad. If you clean the house the day before then it probably won't fall apart

The day I had mine removed (all 4) I was blah but I went back to work the next day (still feeling blah but not as much). Felt better after about a week. You will maybe need help that first day or two.

If you have problems with pain killers you can ask to be given a long acting anesthetic. Lidocaine lasts around 2 hours, but Marcaine can last 6-8. It is a local anesthetic, so you don't feel drowsy...but your mouth will be numb. Some people don't like that sensation for so long.
2 days for me. I had 3 out at once (had the other 1 out a few years prior).
But, that 2 days was because I have a hard time with general anesthesia and narcotic pain killers so I wasn't fun to be around, or coherent.
My sis had 2 out when I had my first 1 and was driving and acting like it never happened later that day.
GL!
This scares me because I have yet to find a pain killer that works for me. I have been on percocet, vicodin, and even my epi failed 3x.
Tell your oral surgeon that you want a non-narcotic pain killer. Considering scrip strength Motrin worked after my c-sec, I can't imagine it not working after wisdom teeth.
Also things to have on hand: chocolate pudding, yogurt, mashed potatoes and maybe some of Ryan's purees will be all you will be able to eat for a few days. Room temperature food. Too hot or too cold will be hard to take.

Thanks everyone! I will have to ask my mom to come out for a couple days. I have been dying to get this taken care of, and now the day is finally approaching. I know it'll be a bit painful, but I am so looking forward to being pain free afterward!
I ate Chinese food (lo mein and egg drop soup) the next day and took Tylenol by day and Tylenol PM to sleep at night. The recovery was really not bad. But I did it pre-DS, so if I had it done now, I would definitely ask for help for a day or two. I was OUT the day of and completely nonfunctional - they put me to sleep to have them removed and I slept for most of the rest of the day. DH woke me up to change the frozen peas on my face and for medicine.
I had mine done two at a time (one side and then the other side later on). I'm glad I did it that way and it wasn't bad at all. I have no idea what it's like to have all four done at the same time!! I think I would want help the day of the operation but after that I would have been fine.

I had four of them out at once under regular anesthsia. I did not go under or get sedated. they were all impacted. I am sorry to say that I had a horrible time and it took me almost five days or so to feel better. Most people I have heard do well...but I didn't...My brother did okay...He was better in about two or three days after surgery.
i had 5 wisdom teeth! recovery was not too bad - i got them out on a friday and i was def. totally fine by monday. the next day i felt pretty good considering but probably would have wanted help on the sat. and sun. with a baby, if i could get it. they gave me something stronger for the pain but i just ended up taking advil. just make sure to take it the first day BEFORE the Novocaine (or whatever you get) wears off! GL1
definitely get help! i think mine must have been extra bad (also, my mom decided i didn't need the heavy painkillers and just gave me advil), b/c it took me a week to recover. the first day, i bled a ton and slept a lot and couldn't walk in a straight line.
I had all 4 of mind removed at once and drove myself home from the dentist. I slept for a couple hours after I got home so I'd say you'd need some help that day. I babysat later that night (I was a live in nanny at the time).

This. But I was also 19, and didn't have a baby, so IDK. Maybe just have someone on standby for recovery day #2?

Day Three
Definitely the 1st day...have someone stay over, or go to a hotel, lol!
The 2nd day, was better but still on painkillers...
Thanks for all of your advice, I really appreciate it!
This was me!
