our HMO only allows us to go to medical groups, and we're considering switching from the pedi group we are now in. but every other group has at least 5 docs in it... did you interview pedi's in a group and if so, did you just interview one and figure they speak for the entire bunch? or meet with multiple docs from the group?
or if anyone takes LO to a family practice doc instead of a pedi, how do you like that? we do like our family practice doc so that is a definite option we're considering.
thank you!!
Re: interviewing pedi who's in a group? or use family practice doc?
I prefer Pedis because all they do is kids who have different needs than an adult doctor.
I have never interviewed but once, loved him, saw him at a visit found out he was an arse. So IMO interviewing is not worth the time. I just schedule an appointment and see if I like the doctor. If not I see someone else the next time.
we use our family doc. We are in a major college town (ie many young families) he teaches at a medical school at the university so he's 'up to date', etc.
I see no reason to use a 'specialist' when our doctor mainly sees young families. If anything he's MORE in tune with our needs since he recognizes issues that affect us all and not just the kids.
I love our family practice doctor. She is just fantastic. She specializes in pediatrics, preventative medicine, women's issues, obstetrics, and alternative medicine. I love her far more than the two pediatricians we first tried out.
