C-section scheduled, 36 week delivery ?

We saw both the peri and our OB today.  Both babies have slowed in their growth but Baby A is still within the "normal curve."  Baby B on the other hand is behind.  They say that her cord etc is okay, but she is just not growing as much as her sister.  We go back next week to see how things are going and have another NST tomorrow.  Based on all that we scheduled a c-section date for 12/14/09, when we will be 36 weeks exactly.  I am hoping that we make it that far, as I have been having a ton of contractions and have been in and out of L&D since 28 weeks.  I am curious who else has delivered at 36 weeks and if so did your babies need NICU time.  If so, how much?  I am a little nervous and just want healthy babies!!  TIA

  • Good luck!  I had mine at exactly 37wks and they required no NICU time, but I know a week can make a difference.  Mine were 6lbs14oz & 5lbs7oz.

Now babies, be good and stay until the 14th!  I hope your NST goes well tomorrow!

  • I had my babies at 35w2d and no NICU time!  I did have the steroid shots, though, and was on hospital bedrest for the 8.5 weeks prior to having them.

Hope all goes well for you!

  • griffin was born at 36w and needed no NICU time (I did have the steriod shots, did you?).  granted, he was a singleton - and he was big - but still, lung function is the concern... and he is a "wimpy white boy" who typically do worse than girls and other ethnicities - so i was very glad he didn't need NICU.
  • 35w5d -- 4 hours of NICU time for observation (required for my hospital for all babies born prior to 26 weeks).  After their 4 hour NICU time they were in the room with me all day & night and we were home 3 days after my c/s.

  • Thank you all so much for responding.  Yes, we had steroid shots when I was hospitalized at 30 weeks, so I am hoping that will help with their lung development and make them more likely to not require NICU time.
  • I had my boys at 36 weeks, 3 days. Mason did great. He was in the room with us the whole time. Wyatt spent 12 days in the NICU for Respiratory Distress Syndrome. I did not have the steroid shots though, so you are in better shape than I was.

  • I delivered Kaden and Nolan at 36w2d.  Kaden was 4lbs6oz and Nolan was 5lbs9oz.  Kaden was in the NICU for 24 hours for observation because of his weight.  The nurses told us he was 25 grams to light to go straight to our room.  They even joked they needed to weigh him with a diaper and he would have been fine.  Nolan had no NICU time.

  • I delivered my triplets at 35 weeks, 6 days.  They weighed 5.3, 4.13 and 4.13.  Allie and Em spent 2 days in the Special Care Nursery and were released from the hospital with me.  Anna had to have surgery on her spine right after birth so she had to stay in the NICU but she would have otherwise been released with me as well.

  • I had my girls at 36 weeks - no NICU time required - they weighed 6.13 and 7.1 lbs.
  • I had Sofia and Ava at 35 weeks exactly.  I had the steroid shots at 30 weeks as well.  Sofia needed no NICU time and Ava only needed to be in there for 4 nights.

  • Our babies were born at 36 weeks. A weighed 5lb 9oz and B weighed 6lb 5oz. Neither needed NICU time. Both were able to breath fine and bf perfectly well. We all went home after 2 days in the hospital. I was able to deliver vag. We did have some weight loss issues before the milk came in so I had to supplement for about 1 week. B/c of the weight loss they both had jaundice but that went away on its own without any treatment. Good luck and best wishes....enjoy the ride!!!! It is wild!
