Why I'm not anti-TV

And I'm not giving anyone a hard time who is. :)

DD is watching Dora, and they were getting ready to go on an adventure! Okay, let's go! But wait! What's missing?! I was looking, and had no idea what they were doing. DD said "boooooooooots!" Boots wasn't wearing his boots. Glad she's smarter than mommy :)

Re: Why I'm not anti-TV

  • LOL, that's awesome. Smart girl! I like TV because I get to spend 5 minutes responding to email and 5 minutes drinking my friggin' coffee when I first get up, then make her breakfast ;) And sometimes? Pure sanity purposes. Good stuff.

  • So cute! I love when DS watches TV, he's always learning something new with all of those shows. He 'sings' their theme songs when he sees them now and knows what certain characters say (Swiper = 'Oh Man')...it's really the cutest thing!

  • we haven't had the tv on at our house in a week!  we are going to be backlogged with sesame street and handy manny!

  • Dora taught K how to say "backpack" and "map". She knows when to say it too- before dora even says "say backpack" or "say map".
  • Yeah, I really don't get the bad rap on TV.  Granted, you don't want to over do it, but my kid picked out a "Y" the other day.  She certainly didn't learn it from me, so I assume it was Sesame Street's accomplishment.
  • My DD loves it. It's the only pause in her busy busy day of destruction and acrobatics, too, so it's a sanity saver, too. And as long as your kid's watching noggin instead of adult swim, it's somewhat educational too.

  • After dinner, DS says "Downstairs, Elmo dance!"  This means he wants to go to the basement, watch Sesame Street and dance/run around.  Ahh--it gives me 20 minutes to relax before the bathtime/bedtime routine starts!

My husband was putting Ainsley in her carseat the other day and he started to say 1,2,3 and lift her. He said one and I guess didn't go on fast enough with the counting. DD said, "Twoooooo?"

    That's all Melmo, baby.

  • The pure joy on my kid's face when she hears "lalalala, lalalala, Elmo's World" makes it worth it for me.  I can't believe how excited she gets.  We do read Elmo books, too, but I don't mind if she watches TV.
  • Yeah, DD has started thanking people in Mandarin.  Since I don't speak any dialect of Chinese, I'd say we can credit that to Kai-Lan.

  • Totally agree, I love seeing his happy face when he hears "The Phone...The phone is ringing".  He also loves Gabba, those 2 are the only shows that hold his attention.
  • Liza is entraced by the Backyardigans. It's downright bizarre. I keep wondering if they are pumping some kind of subliminal messages through them.

  • haha This is hilarious. She just said "ohh meen" to swiper. She's never talked back to them before.

And we have to upgrade our entire package to get the Noggin/Nick Jr channel with Backyardigans and Wonder Pets. And i'm considering it...because I love me some wonder pets.

  • Jude will only watch Caillou.. like repeatedly.  He would watch the same episode on a loop if I let him!  He's learned a ton from it, though!  It's so funny to see him imitating things Caillou does or say a word Caillou said!

    Us too :)

  • DD counts to 10 and knows a lot of letters.  Yes, some are from reading and me talking all the time, but I mostly credit Sesame Street.
