Nice to meet you all! I am so excited to finally post here and share the journey with everyone!
Introduction - I got my bfp today! Due Dec 13! I really believed that my period was about to start but decided to take a test because my husband kept telling me he had a feeling that this month was the month. And lo and behold...he was right! I got two beautiful dark pink lines on a frer test! In fact, my pregnancy line appeared before the control line.
I thought that the normal protocol was to go to the doctor's office for another pregnancy test once I got a home bfp. But when I called, the nurse told me that the doctor doesn't need to do any confirmation tests because home pregnancy tests are just as good these days. Also, they do blood tests only for women with histories of miscarrying or ectopic pregnancies. Interesting. So I have my first doctor visit May 7, when I am 8 weeks.

and yes, what the nurse told you sounds like pretty standard protocol if there are no known issues.

I had the same experience with my doctor's office. I took 4 home pregnancy tests and they said they did not need to confirm with a blood test since this my first pregnancy and I am not considered high risk. My first appt is 04/17/12. By then I will be just past 7 weeks and am hoping to hear the heartbeat.
