I don't keep them in anything if they are clean. I will throw one or two of the smaller ones (FB fitteds, Smartipants) in if we are heading to the mall or somewhere like that. I have a 12" square wetbag with a zipper for the dirties. I also toss in a couple small cloth wipes, the peri bottle from the hospital with water, the changing pad that came with the bag and I am good to go. I know some moms store all this in the wet bag and then switch clean with dirties once there's a changing.
We have the Pottery Bark Kids tote diaper bag that was on clearance for $19.99 around this time last year. It's the size of a classic tote bag and black so gender neutral for DH. When it's full (can easily hold everything for an overnight at grandma's) it's huge, but when it's just stuff for a day trip, it's light and squishy and easily tucks under the stroller or I use in place of my purse.
