  • was my oldest was 1, she climbed onto her grandmother's counter, and opened her blood pressure med., and took 2 pills, I was in the middle of a aerobics class, they called me as they rushed her to the hospital, I got there, and they had to feed her a tube of liquid charcoal, to absorb the med., and wait 2 hours, and then she was fine. But it scared the hell out of me!

  • Milignant Melanoma - Have to get checked every 3 months by an oncologist and I have an appointment tomorrow - I'm sick to my stomach thinking about going.
  • I'm partially deaf (35%)  in my right ear from two ruptured ear drums.

  • Stupid c-section. I'm pretty sure. can't think of anything else.

OH WAIT - I had pneumonia (ha! spelled it right!) at 6 months.

Incompetent Cervix (resulting in my son being born 14 weeks early)

  • I guess appendicitis.  Or pneumonia.  Nothing too horrible.

  • The "impressive" postpartum hemorrhaging I had due to my ute's unwillingness to contract immediately following Baby D's delivery.  After several days flat on my back, I still didn't bounce back from the loss of blood.  I eventually earned 2 units of blood after passing out on the nurses a few times.  I had a long, slow recovery from all that.

PS - the fundal massage necessary to stop the bleeding was the.worst.pain of my life (think fist up crotch after delivering a 10 lber w/o pain meds).

i'm sorry.. my mom had the same, and has to do the same-- so i know how scary it can be.  but she is almost 4 years out with no issues if it's any consolation!.

  • Aside from being ripped open from stem to stern in an attempt to have a bebe? Kidding...

I broke every.single.bone in my right wrist and forearm. I have to have a complete wrist replacement and have a completely artificial bone structure from my mid arm through the middle of my hand. It was my dominant hand. I was NOT told by the doctor, though my mother was, that I would never, ever be able to use my wrist, hand, or arm in any normal fashion ever again. I am a belligerent SOB (in case you hadn't noticed) and taught myself to be ambidextrous, not take any painkillers (because drinking was more important and it was my freshman year of college), and within 6 months of doing physical therapy I asked to stop because it was boring and useless. I went to the doctor, who examined me, and, when I showed him I had complete and full use of my wrist he stepped back 2 steps, welled up in tears, and openly showed his shock, which, again, I didn't know was possible because I didn't know I was supposed to be a cripple. And you can ask any of the girls at the GTG we had, no one knows I have a prosthetic.

    TA DA!

I also mangled my face in that accident but that isn't visible either.

And I had lasik without pain killers in my eyes. Major oops on the doctors part. It was a pain worse that a hundred labors and what I meditated on during med free labor...

  • I have something called veso vega. My heart rate sky rockets and my blood pressure drops, and if I don't catch it I usually end up on the floor. My pregnancy increased the amount of times it happen. It can be offset by a few things, but mine is usually heat and stomach pain. It scared the crap out of me when I was on my own (especially driving), but now with a baby its even worse. As soon as I get a hot flash, I put J down just incase.
  • that I remember? Infertility

But I OD'd on a bunch of pills when I was little and had to have my stomach pumped...I have no memory of that, but my mother assures me she is scared for life.

I also had lazy eye surgery and wore patches until I was 4. But that wasn't that big of a deal to me, as I remember.

  • I carry the antibodies for Lupus.  I get tested once a year, so far so good.  My grandma is active and now my mom is too.

Thanks, your story did help me to feel a little better.

  • Prior to my C-section, the worst medical issue I dealt with was getting my wisdom teeth out.  And they didn't even have to put me under for that.
  • I would say Mono and Lyme's Disease. I've been really lucky.

wait a minute. what accident caused this?   and you have a prothetic what? the bone in your arm? or something else?   How did the dr continue with your eyes if you were in such pain? TELL ME MORE INFO!

  • I was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome after delivering DD.  The doctor didn't make a big deal out of it, and I was fine after a blood platelet transfusion; however, I came home a googled it... not my smartest decision...

  • Two weeks after delivery, I ended up in the ER with an infection in my uterus that spread to my blood. I had Sepsis, which is life threatening. Luckily I was strong enough to fight it. It was the worst experience of my life having a 2 week old baby at home and not knowing if I was going to be ok. I am petrified it will happen again when we decide to have another.
  • Fibromyalgia - which has involved stomach issues (first ulcer at age 11, 5 or 6 endoscopes since then, colonoscopy at age 22, surgically removed hemmrhoids a month later), sleep issues (sleep aids for 5 years), chronic pains (including a nerve test last year that involved electric shocks sent through my body, medications, full body hurts), heart issues (I have to eat a high sodium diet or I get very light headed).

It's a mess, but I have to learn to deal with it. It's not life threatening.

  • The scariest was when I found a lump in my breast.  It ended up beinga cyst, but the waiting to find out after the mammogram and doppler was the worst.

The worst pain (besides un-medicated childbirth) was when I had a kidney infection while I was pregnant.  I couldn't take anything for pain.  I had to suck it up and deal with it.  My doctor told me I was 24 hours away from being put in the hospital because I waited too long before going to be checked out. I had chalked up the initial pain to being pregnancy related.  It got so much worse after that.

I'm incrediably thankful that I have had very few and minor medical issues.

  • I had chronic kidney stones for 2 years and had 4 surgeries to remove them the not so fun way....they can either go up and in with a laser and camera and do it or use and xray and laser it through your back...the one that lasers through your back travels between the hospitals and when I needed the surgery it was never where I was going to be....I had lots of testing done the worst being an IVP where they inject a lot of liquid in you that makes you glow on xray.....they were painful and so were the surgeries....they finally figured out what was causing them and fixed the issue again through surgery in Feb of 2002....so far so good as they haven't returned...

This happens to me too. It is worse when I stand up from sitting on the ground or bending over. So far, I've never fallen to the ground, but I've fallen into furniture or the wall.

  • Hmmm . . . I'm not sure what I'd classify as the worst.

When I was five, I busted my head open very badly very close to my eye and now have a really cool scar. I don't remember too much about it, except that people brought me presents afterwards.

While pregnant, I got gall bladder disease. I was sick to the point of needing to be on Zofran every day during my pregnancy just to keep from throwing up. They didn't know I had gall bladder disease until I was fairly far into my pregnancy (just thought it was severe m/s) so I couldn't have my gall bladder removed until after I had DD.

Oh, and I had gestational diabetes too. And despite all that, I felt like pregnancy wasn't too bad! :)

  • I am a sad sack of mess. Infertility sucked that was due to PCOS and IR. I almost died with my tonsils ruptured when I was 7 that was bad. I think the worst is my post traumatic stress syndrome and borderline personality disorder, that almost killed me via suicide.

  • I had a really weird "mystery illness" when I was a freshman in high school. All my internal organs became swollen, my white blood cell count completely dropped, I developed a horrible rash all over my face and my immune system shut down. It happened 3 different times that year, each time longer than the last. In addition to the horrible stomach pains from the swollen organs and the rash, because I had no immune system I got a whole bunch of random illnesses - bladder infection, flu, etc.

I was in and out of the hospital, saw some of the top specialists in Seattle, had a ton of tests done (Upper GI, endoscopy, allergy tests, cat scan, ultrasound, numerous blood, urine & stool tests) and no one ever figured it out. It just went away and never came back. They thought I might have an auto immune disease, or even leukemia but all the tests came back to show I was fine. I missed about 6-7 weeks of school and lost a ton of weight and my immune system has never been the same - I still get sick very, very easily.

One of the doctors who ran a bunch of tests on me even called for the few years following to check-up on me and see if any of the symptoms came back because my condition totally baffled him and he'd been in practice for 20+ years.

Pregnancy related - I was induced for pre-e and I had extreme swelling in my hands, legs & feet. When I developed a headache that vicodin, demerol and even morphine wouldn't kick my OB was worried that the swelling had gone to my brain. I had that headache pretty much until I delivered DD.

  • I had Scarlet Fever in college. WTF?! I've never known anyone else to have it.

My c-section sucked b/c it took 5 months to heal. The c-section itself wasn't that bad though.

Probably the most painful thing I've ever had was ovarian cysts. Appendicitis is a close second.

  • I've had some random medical thing every spring for the last few years.

In 2006 it was my appendix.  2007 I broke my foot.  2008 I had multiple periodontal surgeries to correct receding gums.  And 2009 I had P.

Since then I've fallen down the stairs and hurt my back real bad and I've fallen in the lobby of my building and fractured my patella.  I'm hoping those two things keep my from having another medical thing this spring.

I have had scarlet fever too! You are the first person I ever "met" that had it.

  • my kidneys failed last year, so I was on dialysis and had countless (seriously lost count after 9) surgeries until I got my kidney transplant!
  • Ugh, I had acute kidney failure in September, a few days in the hospital, blood transfusions, and a month of steroids and I'm better- they think too much Advil caused it!?!? So be careful with the ibuprofen, ladies, I had never had a kidney issue in my life.

And I have Crohn's Disease which majorly sucks, but my bi-weekly injection of Humira has me in remission (serious knock on wood).
