12 week ultrasound??

in 1st Trimester

I have an ultrasound on Thursday at 12w1d due to placenta previa. I've been reading online and some places say that it is possible to tell the sex as early as 12 weeks. I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I doubt it but I'm dying to find out!?

Anyone find out that early?? ?

    That is really really early.  I've heard as early as 16 weeks but not 12.

    From what I've been reading I guess sometimes they then can tell by the angle of the "nub".?

    It's really, really hard to tell at 12 weeks, and most techs won't even look. It really seems to be 50/50! I've seen a lot of women get disappointed because their 20 week ultrasound revealed something different than their 12 week ultrasound.

    At 12 weeks, the anatomy of both genders looks pretty similar. Even if they happened to be right, I would have said they were lucky not that they "knew" by the ultrasound.

    Um... no.  My u/s tech pretty much confirmed that they can't tell anything until 20 weeks.  We did see arms and legs though!  No real face yet, but it definately looked like a baby!

    Stephanie! We have the Same due date! June 16, 2010. lol. And like you, I'm DYING to know what I'm having but the OB said that they won't be able to tell until between 16-20 weeks, and usually it's the 20 week mark! Keep in touch and let me know how it goes! Big Smile
