Hey ladies, had my 39 week appt yesterday and it looks like this baby is already 8.5 pounds or more with no signs of coming on her own yet. Who has a positive birth story about a bigger than average baby they want to share??? ![]()
I don't have GD.. she's just big!
eek!
Re: If you gave birth to a 9 pounder come in!!
At my 40 week appt they estimated Henry to be 8 pounds max...he was born the next day at 9lbs 5 oz.
It wasn't NEARLY as bad as I thought it was going to be...I had an epi and I didn't really feel him crowning or anything. Just pressure & recovery wasn't bad at all either..
I think I just got really lucky!

You will always be loved & missed our sweet angel.
I didn't have a 9 pounder but DS was 8lbs7oz. My midwife guesstimated that I will have a smaller size but healthy baby. Well, we all were surprised when we saw the numbers on the scale. I had a natural vaginal delivery without any problems/ complications and no tears. :-)
Good Luck!
10-4, everything was fine. no tears.
ultrasounds are not reliable. 2 days earlier he measured 7-15
my friend was induced early for a 9-5 baby and had a 6-9 baby.
Lordy, tha'ts way off! That's what I am afraid of. The doc said by looking at me she would guess 9 pounds or so, so I'm kind of going on her experience as well, but I'd hate to be induced unsuccessfully only to find out she would have been fine cooking a few more days.
I guess I just have to wait and see..

I measured 46 weeks at 39 weeks, and we knew the baby was at least 9 pounds. The midwife thought more like 10 pounds. DS was born at home, after a 3 hour labor, weighing in at 11 pounds, 6 ounces. Our birthstory and pics are on our blog: https://mikeandmcgee.blogspot.com/2009/11/alexs-homebirth-in-words-and-photos.html
I did not have GD either. We just make big babies.
Don't worry about the baby's weight. Fat squishes. It really does. The size concern is more with the baby's head and shoulders. How is baby's head measuring? Also, I don't know if this is part of your birth plan or not, but if you can avoid an epidural so you can push in whatever position is comfortable for you, you can let gravity work with you. I was able to get DS's shoulders and the rest of his body out in one push just by being upright.
And since it sounds like you need to hear it: you can do this. Your body was meant to deliver babies, even "big" ones. My midwife delivers 9 pound babies all the time!

My OB predicted my baby would be about 9 lbs and the last US I had was in the high 8's (8 lbs. 14 oz. I think). He ended up being 9 lbs. 3 oz. and 22.65 inches long. It was an easy labor. I ended up getting an epidural at a 7 but it had nothing to do with his size or anything. I say this b/c I know some people think delivering a bigger baby is more painful but I don't think it is and my doctor said the pain is the same regardless of what size the baby is. I think I did 4 sets of pushes and there he was. I was in labor 8 hours from when I started timing to when he arrived. I think I required 2 stitches. Also, I didn't think the recovery was bad at all - I mean yes, don't get me wrong, you are sore but some poeple make it sound like a normal recovery (minus any complications) is the worst thing ever.
BTW - Maybe its just me but I guess 9 lbs just seems normal size to me. But there are so many people that have their jaw drop when I say how big he was.
I was measured at 36 week appt with a 9lb 10 oz prediction. We had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks (due to fear of him being to big) and he weighed in at 10lb 6oz.
I think the ultrasound was pretty dead on for us and I am extremely happy to have done the c-section. Although natural birth was my desire the c-section was fast, simple, and had no complications and I would do it again if they predicted the size to be the same. It has been 2 weeks and my abilities are back to normal!
We also had an ultra sound about three days before he was born and they said he would be 81/2 lbs...give or take a pound in either direction!
I was induced for PIH and he was born via C-Section and was 9 lbs 3 oz!! I was shocked!
I do not miss lugging around that huge baby in my tummy anymore!

your OB shouldnt be inducing you just because she thinks your baby is big, that's not a medically relevant reason to induce. many women have birthed larger babies and lived to tell the tale, I'm sure you'll be fine. my DD was 8-10 and I was induced at 39 weeks (due to gall bladder issues.) I almost wish I had waited to go into labor on my own because the induction went hard and fast, and my epi didn't work the way it's supposed to. I did tear a little bit, but AFAIK it wasnt major. I'm a big chicken so in the midst of it all I was kind of freaking out, but when I think about it now I'm like aww that was nothing lol
