Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How do you get LO to take a bottle for the first time?

DD has been EBF since day 1 - and now I'm thinking it would be nice if she took a bottle once a day so I could get her reflux meds into her in a nicer way (right now she gags on the meds and spits most of it out).

I've tried a couple different bottles/nipples, but so far she just chews on the nipple a bit and looks at me like I'm crazy. I've tried putting a drop on the end of the nipple, and squirting a bit into her mouth, but she won't suck it! She'll take a pacifier occasionally, so I don't know why she won't just take on the bottle.

Any tips?

  • I've been trying every possible way (different bottles, dif nipples, different people trying such as DH or g-ma) for 6 weeks now.   She still wont drink from a bottle.

I go back to work in 2 weeks.

I don't know what she's going to do.

  • My only thought: is it warm enough?

Andrew has been taking a bottle a day since about 1 month old.  He likes a really warm bottle - even room temp is too cool for him and he won't drink from it.  I guess he's used to 98.6.

You may have already thought of this, but I just thought I'd throw it out there!  GL!

  • mm I don't know what to say...DD likes everything!! warm cold, silicone, the other one (how do you call them again??) I would say keep trying, LO will get used to it eventually
  • Try leaving the room and letting your husband give her the bottle. This is what worked for us the first time and now he'll take a bottle from anyone, although it still takes longer for me personally to coax him to drink from it.
