Poll: What do you call your in-laws?

DH calls my parents "mom" and "dad" (using grandma and grandpa when ds is around).

I call his parents Mr. and Mrs. Last Name. His mom once said, "call me Nancy" - but I'm not really comfortable with calling her by her first name. I am rarely alone with either one of them, so it's easy now with ds I call them Nana and Granddad.

Re: Poll: What do you call your in-laws?

  • I call my ILs by their first names, or grandma and grandpa if DS is there.

DH calls my mom "Mom Lastname" and my dad "Mr. Lastname" :)

  • I call them by their first names. If DD is around I call them by her names for them.

We have been together since we were 16 though, so I feel more than comfortable calling them by their first names. They would look at me like I was from Mars if I called them Mr or Mrs. Last Name Smile

  • I call them pains in my asss.

Oh you were serious?  Just kidding, I call them by their first names.  DH calls my parents Mr. and Mrs. lastname.

  • Well, when Anna is around, I call them Grandma and Grandpa.  When it's just us, I used to call them Mrs. First Name and Mr. First Name, but I dropped the Mrs/Mr (per their request) and just call them by their first names.  DH calls my parents Mr. and Mrs. just b/c it feels more comfortable.
  • 1st names. But if DS is around (and he usually is) I refer to them as Grandma and Grandpa.
  • We each call each others parents by their first name unless DS is around, and then we call them what he calls them.
  • Dumb and Dumber. Ha. No, seriously, I call them by their FNs unless I'm talking to my DSs.
  • When I am just talking to DH I will say "your mom" Otherwise I will say her first name.  I will NEVER call her "mom"  Sorry I'm just not a fan of hers.
  • DH and I both call our ILs by their first names, or if DS is around Grandma and Grandpa.

  • By their first names. DH also calls my mom and dad by their first names.
  • DH and I both used to refer to our respective IL's by Mom Firstname and Dad Firstname.  I'm not sure my IL's liked it, though... they were a touch huffy at first I wasn't using just Mom and Dad, although my mom loved the idea and my dad didn't really give two hoots.  With DD now it's pretty much their respective grandparent names.

  • By their first names and DH calls my Mom by her first name too.
  • DH calls my parents by their first names, I avoid calling my ILs anything.
  • I call them by their first names, and always have.  Even DH's younger cousins call them that.... which is odd coming from a 5 year old!  I could never do Mom and Dad.

    ditto.

i feel like i'd be cheating on my parents if i called the ILs mom and dad, even though they look at me as their daughter.

  • First names or mom/dad for FIL/MIL. DH does the same with my mom. With my dad and stepmom, he uses first names only.

I had the hardest time figuring out what to call DH's parents when we got married because I barely knew them. They lived on the other side of the country and I had only talked to his dad on the phone and met them the week of the wedding. Now we live a few miles away and I spend more time with them than DH does. When he is at work I go over there for dinner, to watch movies, or just hang out, lol. So I started out calling them by their first names, but as we got closer, mom and dad just feel more appropriate. But I don't know how to switch what I call them without it being weird, so I kind of use both. Now I mainly use their grandparent names, though, because DD is always around, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

  • I call them by their first name.  When my H's grandparents were alive I'd call them grandma/grandpa.  It was easier because everyone in the family called them that and never used their first name.
  • We both call each other's parents by their first names.  My ILs would LOVE for me to call them Mom and Dad, but I just can't do it!  It feel so fake.
  • I call them by their first names. I would love to call them mom & dad, but I don't know how they'd react. We're really close, we talk on the phone almost everyday, but I think MIL might feel like it's disrespectful to my parents for me to call her that. She's very conscious of not stepping on my parents toes.

DH calls my parents by their first names.
