My DS used to eat a wide variety of foods including fruits and veggies, but in the last couple of months he has become very picky. I still offer whatever it is DH and I are eating, but when he refuses to eat what I put in front of him I usually cave and offer something else b/c I figure I'd rather have him eat something than nothing.
However, I worry that I am making the situation worse by giving him an alternate meal. I have tried just leaving the meal I've made and telling him he has to eat it, but then he starts throwing the food. Has anyone else dealt with a picky eater like this? What has worked for you?
Also, he refuses to eat all vegetables and won't eat most meat. Any suggestions on how to hide things or get him to try them? The stupid thing is that one day he'll eat something and love it and the next day he'll refuse to touch it. It also seems that he picks one item off his plate and eats only that refusing to touch the other items on the plate.
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. TIA!
Re: Need advice for picky eater
He could just be going through a phase. DD was a garbage disposal in the beginning but is starting to develop a more defined pallate. And what she liked one day doesn't mean she'll like it the next.
I try to offer choices. I'll show two foods and let her point. Or let her pick a plate or which spoon to use. I think if someone constantly shoved food at me without asking, I'd get frustrated too!
At the same time - pick your battles. So long as they're eating SOMETHING, it might just be easier. But also remember, they won't starve themselves. If they won't eat breakfast, you can be sure they'll eat whatever you put down for lunch!
this article was helpful for me (we haven't conquered the pickiness but it helps me understand him a little more...)

This article is awesome! Thank you for sharing!
I should add that my DS has recently discovered "dunkers" (bbq sauce to dunk in). He never liked them until a week or two ago and now he will eat more (not everything, but more than he was before) because it's fun to "dunk dunk dunk!"
Even foods he loved anyway... bananas get dunked in bbq sauce. gross! but he likes it...
