Where do you put your Christmas tree?

Where is your tree located in your house?  And is there major furniture that needs to be moved every Dec when you put it up?

I'm just curious how much rearranging most people do to make room for the tree.  We don't have a lot of extra room to begin with so decorating for the holidays always involves moving lots of stuff around.

Re: Where do you put your Christmas tree?

  • Ours goes in the foyer. My LR has pretty much no usable walls (lots of windows and doorways) so the foyer is the best option for us. It is an unused wall the rest of the year, so I love having the tree there.

  • Ours goes in our front room or the living room. No we don't move furniture. I love a tree that you can see from the street...my dh wants it in our back family room-I say no to that..
  • we moved ours from a corner in the dining room this year to a corner in the living room.  we just had to move a table with a doll house for dd to her room.  The one in the basement took a lot of toy moving and hiding in the laundry room to find a corner with an outlet.
  • Music room.  The big front window facing the street is in there, and it's out of the way & the kids generally leave it alone.  We hang out in the living room/dining room, but can still see the tree.  I usually just have to straighten up my craft stuff and put some toys away, the window area is never blocked unless the kids did something interesting.
  • We usually put ours in our livingroom. No furniture moving needed.

This year, it just might be hung from the ceiling. I cannot keep DS out of the dishwasher, forget from playing with a tree. Either that, or I'm going to look for a scene setter with a tree to stick on the wall.

I'm not looking forward to DS ripping down the tree!

  • We have 2 trees.  The big one is in the living room.  I move a trunk to the basement for the month and the chair that normally goes in that corner just moves to where the trunk was.  Nothing too major.  The smaller tree (with non breakable / kid friendly things) goes in the family room.  That way if they touch something it's not a huge deal.  I don't need to move anything for that, it goes right in the corner next to the fireplace.  Since the kids don't really go in the living room I can also put the non Santa gifts under the tree without fear of them being tampered with.
  • Ours goes in the living room.  I'd love to put it int he dining room in the corner with the two huge windows facing front, but DH says no, he doesn't want our tree in the dining room.  I didn't have to move much last year, Had to move one chair at first, but then we ended up moving the entire tree to the corner in the end, so we wouldn't of had to move anything if that would of been decided to begin with.  This year we have a 9ft tree, so it will have to go on the side huge wall so it can "peek" up into the cathedral ceiling..soo we will have to re-arrange the entire living room.  Next year the fire place will be put in, so i really have no idea where we will put our tree then.. maybe next year I'll finally get it in the dining room :-D
  • We put up two trees. One (the real one) goes in the family room. The other (the fake one) goes in the formal living room.

We do rearrange some furniture, but it's not big deal. In the family room, we just shift the couch to the opposite wall. In the formal living room, we take out a chair and put the tree in its place. (We put the chair in the basement for the month).

  • Well this year, we're not putting up a tree at all, b/c of space issues.  Bah humbug, right?  LOL.

Anyway, at our old house, we usually put the tree up in our living room that had a bay window.  The other nice thing was that it had doors that shut to the room so we could keep Jackson out.  After Christmas, we had finished the playroom off the family room and we had talked about putting the tree out there the next year, or right at the entrance of the room in the family room since the rooms were connected/pretty open.

I can't wait for next year when we are settled in a house!

  • We used to always put it in the livingroom so people could see it from the front of the house but qiute frankly I would rather see it myself...so moved it to the familyroom (where we are all the time).  It is not by a window though...it's in a corner.  I have to move the loveseat down about 6 inches...but otherwise that is the only moving of furniture I have to do.
