Nothing seems to be working. I'm not completely constipated, but my stools are hard. I drink prune juice 3 X's a day, apple juice 3 X's a day, stool softeners 3 X's a day and metamucil 3 X's a day, and still, they are hard. I drink plenty of water. Any suggestions?
Re: Anyone have hard stools?
Super duper! Nothing I have tried works.
It's one of those awesome pregnancy things I guess. At least I only have to suffer with it every two or three days. I am just thankful that it's not diarrhea like I had with my first!!
Try eating more fiber instead of the fiber supplements (this from someone who has struggled with constipation/hard stools most of her life). Metamucil never worked for me - it was too much fiber all at one time and made me bloated and uncomfortable.
Be aware of how much soluble vs insoluble fiber you're getting. Insoluble fiber is what helps get things moving but again too much and you end up gassy an uncomfortable.
I do pears with a high fiber cereal + tons of green veggies (leafy greens, peas, green beans, etc). If you don't want to eat a pear everyday, the canned ones are good and you can eat them quickly. I also drink water like it's my job - I used to pee almost every hour before the bfp, so now I just pee every hour. It sucks but it's not as bad the pooping issue.
I also work out. Exercise is your best friend - walk/jog/swim/etc 20-30 every single day and you'll notice the results within a week. Everything is much more regular and I notice if I don't work out that things get backed up.
And finally - switch to probiotic yogurt. This is also a huge help.
Sorry, I just wrote a book - I know how much it stinks and wanted to let you know that I've tried everything under the sun and these are the things that have worked for me. I also don't do caffeine (even before the bfp).
Good luck!
haha, you said it stinks :-p
seriously tho, good advice! i have the same problem and honestly would love a bout of diarrhea right about now.
I've been meaning to post my tip, so thanks for asking!
A midwife I talked to recommended taking a calcium magnesium supplement. I started doing that every day and it has really helped!! I'm not constipated anymore, hurray!!!
