I am reminded time and time again that my job really can't be done in 40 hours a week. Well, actually, my job can't really be done in 70 hours a week, but I made my peace with that years ago....now it seems that even the bare minimum cannot be done in less than 40 hours. It is affecting my self esteem when I leave at 5 and have stuff left on my plate. I definitely do about an hour of work at home almost every night and there are definitely weeks that I am at the office for closer to 45 hours but I don't like that since then I miss out on seeing G. And honestly, I still have work left to do. Pre-baby I definitely worked closer to 50 hours a week but now I do not and really cannot do that. I am in senior management so I know some extra time should be expected but I also work for a non-profit so I am certainly not compensated for extra time.
I guess I'm just curious as I don't think I'll do anything about it but are there full time jobs out there that are really just 40 hours a week?
Re: If you work full time, how many hours a week?
Yup. I work 36 hours a week (it's 3, 12 hour shifts). I get full time benefits. It's nice.
I'm a RN.
Mine is 40 hours most of the time. I do go in on an occasional weekend to catch up, and sometimes field emails from my blackberry at night, but I don't let it get too out of control.
When I go back after having the babies, I am going to have to be even more on top of my hours since the girls can only be in daycare for 9 hours/day max.

I wish I'm at least 50 hours a week plus at least 1 or 2 Saturdays a month. And, sadly, this is a *huge* improvement from my last job!
