Just out of curiosity- how many people who are now planning on participating in the hour of silence actually took a moment of silence for those killed at Ft. Hood a month ago?
Fuuck TTC - I'm moving on.
"It's a child, not a cheeto" Thanks mmariluh!
"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
I'm not sure I count though since I know a lot of people still there, and a couple that were personally affected (including one of the wounded).
*ETA: The main reason I'll be observing it is because the duo has their 9 month doctor's appointment tomorrow morning so I won't be here at that time. I'd more than likely observe it anyway though.
Yes individually. I didn't mean as a board, especially since when I mentioned the moment of silence here only leslie responded.
I'd be willing to bet that many of those who are planning on observing an hour of silence tomorrow couldn't be bothered to take a moment of silence for 13 murdered and 30 wounded.

I think you are drawing some very large assumptions here. I chose not to respond prior because I also thought you meant as a board and I didn't remember doing this.

I did a moment of silence for those lost/wounded at Ft. Hood. - we have a family friend on base there.
as for tomorrow, I will be away from the internet so, yes, I guess I will be taking part in that too.

I think it comes down to awareness, and what is close to your heart. The Christopher story has been posted umpteen times across the Bump, and I'm sure that for all the women here who knew her, who have children, or are trying for children, it hit close to home. If it had just been some story on the news, it would have been different. I don't watch the news, or read the paper, so I honestly had no idea about the Ft Hood shooting until my brother posted about it on FB.

I agree. I didn't hear about Ft. Hood right away because I don't watch the news. The story about Christopher hits a lot closer to home with me. Judge if you feel the need...
I don't think it's fair to judge people on what tragedies they choose to recognize with moments of silence. Different things touch/affect different people in different ways.

That's ridiculous. Anyone who has a beating heart has been thinking about that tragedy and the lives that have been changed forever. Have we had a moment of silence for the soldiers killed abroad? And the people suffering in poverty here in America? And children who are abused? No but that doesn't mean I don't think and pray about those things every day. Moments of silence are just one way we sympathize with tragedies. They aren't the only way.

I completely agree with this, and would like to point out that this statement goes BOTH ways.* There is nothing wrong with people supporting what they feel personally affected by, and not caring as much about other tragedies that don't touch them on that deeper level. The typical human being does not have enough emotional reserves, or hours in the day, to be able to be deeply upset by everything bad that happens.
*Before anyone freaks out, I am not pointing fingers and saying that anyone in particular (including j_luvs_r) is judging others for what they choose to do in any tragic situation.

Not sure what direction we are headed. Either way, I am up for the ride.

Maybe that's the point?
Exactly the point.
I'm fairly positive that people who post tomorrow during the hour of silence will be judged. And probably quite publicly along with hate pm's.

That would be a shame, and IMO would say a hell of a lot more about the people judging than the ones who chose to not participate for whatever reason.

And I am sure that ketamarie would NOT have wanted people being judged for any of this. If you want to observe fine, if you don't thats fine too.

I'm not being an ass, I'm in and out a lot. Did we do this as a board? Or do you just mean individually?
I did individually.
I'm guessing individually because I never saw anything about having a moment of silence for it as a board.

I agree Leslie. If people don't want to participate they shouldn't be judged.
