OK mamma's what did you wish that you had with you when you were at the hospital. I am "planning" on doing an epi but just what all do I need. I read the lists but I want to know what else I will need to get through my time at the hospital. Thanks!!
I read all the lists of what you should take to the hospital and I wound up not taking half of it. When we were leaving to go to the hospital, since I knew I wouldn't be in them long, I threw on the clothes I wanted to wear home so I didn't have to have extra stuff. Took travel shampoo, conditioner, face wash and a going home outfit for my son. Maybe take you boppy if you have one. There was too much going on and I was too tired to care if I had make-up on, or a cute outfit to go home in.
I was really glad that I had my own pillow and bath robe. Other than that I'd say it's a good idea to bring stuff that makes you feel comfortable, like comfy sweats, socks, and your toiletries. I didn't need half the stuff I packed.
oh yeah, and bring your own maxi pads (hospital ones are terrible.)
I brought black stretchy yoga capris, and they were awesome for keeping the mesh panties and pads situated-- and I was not worried about any stains because they were black. I was also comfortable sitting however I wanted with visitors with them on.
Other than that... chapstick and breath mints were my must haves.

I would just bring a warm pair of sweats or pj's and socks for when your in the recovery room (they kept the rooms kind of chilly at my hospital), a nursing bra and a boppy pillow (if you're nursing...they're so much easier to nurse with than trying to prop up baby on a bunch of hospital pillows!)...trying to think what else...the hospital provided huge pads which I personally loved! they were like diapers almost but you sure didnt have to worry about any leaks on your panties. they gave me a bag of stuff to take home with me, but you might want to make sure you have tucks pads and maxipads at home too. the hospital also provided diapers, wipes, and diaper rash cream so I didnt need any of that, just a homecoming outfit and a couple onesies or pj's for LO to wear while you're there.
I wouldnt bother bringing makeup or styling products etc. and make sure your going home outfit is comfy and nonconstrictive.
These were the things I found the most necessary...
- Chapstick - Comfy socks (make sure you don't mind if they get ruined/thrown away...things can get very messy) - Boppy (if you plan on nursing) - Extra hair ties (for long hair) - Glasses (if you wear contacts) - Baby book (for getting baby's footprints) - Camera and batteries/charger
Don't worry about bringing a robe, towels, hairdryer, or pillows. They will have them there. I brought them all and never used ANY of it. Magazines, books, iPod...I found that I was too overly excited to focus on any of these things. TV was just fine to defeat small bouts of boredom during contractions. Also, don't bother bringing diapers, pacis, or other baby equipment other than a car seat. They provided all that for us, but you may want to check ahead of time with your hospital.
I might be the weird one here but I actually used my make-up. It made me feel more like myself I guess. I should have brought another change of clothes. I had Cole at 2:30am on Friday and we didn't leave until Sunday afternoon. I had one set of PJs and clothes to come home in and that was it (we went to the hospital around 9pm so the clothes I got there in weren't really "clean" to me as I'd been wearing them all day). We brought DVDs of tv shows to watch, they were better than a movie in that the episodes were shorter. Other than that, I had my regular bathroom stuff and my Boppy, and something for Cole to wear home. He was swaddled and in a hospital tshirt while we were there.
