Mommies - pollish

When did you all stop feeling like a milk cow? Lol!  I mean, when did your little one not need to eat every 2-3 hours? My nipples would like to know...  Big Smile

  • I thought the first 3 weeks were horrible. Constantly slathering the nips in lanolin ans bearing the uncomfortableness is how i got through it. After that though it gets better. But he was still eating every 2 ours or so for long after that.

Thanks k8.  At least my nipples know there is an end in sight.  Lol.  Nipple cream is definitely my friend.

  • At 3 wks my nips are just now "starting" to feel a little tiny bit better and nursing him is becoming more bearable more times than it is unbearable.  I have also started pumping once a day to start building a freezer stash (we are going to wait at least another week or two to start a bottle) and I feel so empowered every time I pump and get 4oz and I am able to stock it away for later.  Knowing that there will be a time in the very near future that DH can take over a feeding or that we can leave him with the grandparents and enjoy a dinner out has REALLY helped me feel like he is less of a leech sucking the life out of me (seriously that's how I felt the first 2 weeks).  I am actually beginning to slightly "enjoy" nursing him now.

But yah, I second the lanolin ointment, I lather it on every morning and every night.  I also try to let the nips air dry for a few mins after each feeding.

DS is going 2-3 hours during the day and in the last week has started to go a 5 hour, followed by a 4 hour stretch at night, which is a god-send.  Of course he has to cluster feed every 1.5-2 hours for about 4-6 hours before bedtime to do this, but so worth it IMHO.

  • My nipples no longer hurt. I believe it was 8 weeks that things got SO much better for me. However, during the day he still eats every 2-3 hours. He started STTN at 3 months but stopped at 4 (sigh) and is back to eating at night every 2 hours.?

I think I read that it's quite common for BFing babies to continue to eat every 2-3 hours for a long while. ?

  • My nipples hurt just from reading about how y'alls nipples hurt.
  • Dh was just teasing me about ''milking a cow''.  ugh.  Norah is going for 3-4 hour streches at a time now, but eats for a total of 40mins, about 20min on each side.  She was also almost ten pounds... DS could never go that long as a newborn.

She also cluster feeds every hour from 6-9pm at night.  I love my lanisoh.

Oy!  Looks like my nipples are in for a long haul.  I am definitely looking forward to pumping and handing him off to DH for a feeding or two.  That won't be for a few weeks though...
