my baby was not gaining weight - so the dr said to try pumping to see what amount of milk i am producing. so i have been doing that and each time I don't get more than 1 oz from both breasts. So we started to supplement with formula. I am still breast feeding 2-3 times a day, pumping... but my milk supply seems to be nothing!!! I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. Any insight would help! Thanks.
Re: just pumping
This. My milk didn't really come in until 4 days. I had been pumping and by the 6th day I had a major over supply after only getting a few drops.
I got next to nothing the first several days of pumping, but my supply got much better about a week after DD's birth. I EP (long story) but wish BFing had worked out since it's true that baby is more efficient than the pump and now I'm having supply issues. I agree with pp - go to a lactation consultant or someone who can weigh the baby before and after a feeding to see how much your LO is really getting. Don't switch to EPing just because of this!
