real Christmas tree question

This has probably been asked, but how early do you get your tree and how do you keep it looking good?

    I think you could get it now. I know when we were growing up, we gave it sprite instead of water to keep it looking good until Christmas.

    We are just putting ours up now. We have never had it this early, but we usually have it a few weeks after christmas, so it will be fine.  Instead of sprite, we boil water and add 1/2 cup of sugar to it-cheaper than sprite.  I boil the water because I hear it breaks open the holes in the bottom of the tree for them to soak up the water.  I'm not sure if it is true, but it sounds good to me!

    If you cut your own tree you can get it now....if you buy a precut I would wait another week or so.

    We got a precut and put it up on Friday.  We don't do anything special..just make sure it's got water.  That's what we've always done and it's fine.

    Ditto, except my DH bought some additive to put in the water (some plant food or something?) to help it last longer. My parents always used sugar.

    This is the first year we got a cut your own, so I am hoping it will last longer. But we usually add an asprin to the water, not sure why though, its something my family always did. If we didnt get a cut your own, we would have waited to put it up, because it is so dry and dead by Christmas.
