I am seriously addicted to this show. There is a segment called "Can I afford it?" and it is a riot! These people call in and ask Suze if they can afford a certain purchase they want to make (anything from a new car, to jewelry, etc) It cracks me up because people will call in and say "Ok I make $8000 a month, I only have my mortgage as my debt, I have $200,000 in savings, $100,000 in investments, and $400,000 in retirement. Can I afford to buy a $450 Dyson?" Uhhhhh DUH YES!
Or you get people that are like "Ok I make $3500 a month, I have $15,000 in CC debt, I have $42,000 in student loans, I have a $250 a month car payment, and I have $10,000 in savings. Can I afford to go on a 2 week cruise that will cost $10,000?" Uhhh DUH NO!!!
I am seriously amazed though at how much some people have in savings and investments and retirement! I know DH & I are still young and have a lot of time to continue to build our savings and retirement, but I am amazed. I guess it all comes along with how much you are able to make. DH & I make a very average living (in the $40,000-50,000 range) and have an average amount in savings (about 3 months living expenses). I love watching the show but in some ways it makes me feel bad! I feel like I should be doing more monthly to prepare for our future!
