Multiples

Working as a nurse while pregnant w/ multiples?

Anyone on here a nurse?  I am a floor nurse- which means I am constantly moving people- push pull stand up sit down- yadda yadda.  How long in reality do you think I can actually work without hurting myself or the babies.  I am nervous about going on bedrest- I of course would like to prolong that as much as I can....

Re: Working as a nurse while pregnant w/ multiples?

  • I am pregnant with twins and will be 31 weeks Thursday.  I work in the operating room part time.  I am still working a 12 and 2 8's without any restrictions.  My managers are being really easy on me.  I am trying to stay at work as long as possible.

  • I would check with your peri or MFM.  For instance I had a desk job and my dr took me out of work at 20 weeks for modified bedrest and it was just a mandatory thing they do at that practice.
  • not a nurse, but i work in a busy ER, shift work, on my feet all the time. I'm still working 3 days a week. I can feel myself slowing down, but still doing good. I plan on working til 34 weeks. I've only got twins though. GL

  • I am a nurse. I worked for the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy on a spinal cord rehab unit, it was rough..did 12 hr shifts. Then I got "laid off" during some downsizing, and got transfered to a position in our nursing home department, working 8 hr shifts, on my feet the whole night. I went out on leave at 31 wks due to mild pre-e and discomfort. I had the boys at 37 wks.
  • I'm an RN in the PICU.  I worked my regular 12 hour shifts the first 16 weeks then they asked me to cut back to 8 hour shifts.  That's what I'm doing right now but it's very scary to me.  I drink and eat very little while I'm there and always start contracting about halfway through my shifts.  I'm trying to make it til at least 28-30 weeks but I'll do whatever the OB thinks is best...good luck!!

  • Good luck, take care of you and your little cupcakes first! I am going back to college next fall to be a nurse. My husband asked what would I do if I got my RN and got pregnant again.....LOL what does any nurse do????? Work as long as is safe!
  • I'm a critical care RN and do 12 hour shifts.  At 13 weeks I began feeling immense pressure in my pelvic area  and at 14 weeks I started spotting.  My OB took me off work then.  I really wanted to make it to at least 30 weeks but no such luck.  On a good note, since taking it easy I have had no more pressure and no further spotting.  I'll be 20 weeks on Tuesday.  I'm just extremely bored but I know it's for a good cause.

     Best Wishes!
