My doc wants to give me Provera b/c no AF after 4 mos off of BCP's (am almost 32yr and was on pill since 18). But, my questions are:
1. Will this just be a quick fix or should I wait it out?
2. Have you done this , would you do this in hindsight
3. does this lead to a path of 'taking pills?"

Re: no af 4 mo.s after going off BCP
Provera isn't a bad idea after 60 days with no AF. It flushes your lining and "resets" your body so that it can try again on it's own. I wouldn't worry about taking it.
I was on depo provera, so the "coming off" effects were more extreme...I went from Feb - Sept with no AF but I knew that was expected.
It is a fix but it is a personal choice whether to wait it out, sometimes it can jumpstart ovulatory cycles, other times not.
I do not think it leads to a path of "pills".
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Jumping to clomid is a bit much, IMO. Clomid isn't candy!
But really--I wouldn't worry about provera. There's nothing wrong with flushing your lining and giving your body another shot to do it's thing on it's own.
Were you regular before BCP's?
I hear ya on this concern about taking pills and getting on that pill bandwagon.... I did take Provera once (July) to end a longer cycle.
It was a one time thing and though my cycles aren't quite 'regular' it did help me end that cycle.
FWIW I wasn't charting then, now I am and I had another 50d cycle and clearly o'd on cd 38 of a 50 day cycle (last month). That was my experience and it is possible to o late in the cycle, may not lead to a BFP but it would end naturally ya know?
If I had a 60d + cycle again I would most likely take Provera again.
GL with your decision!
FWIW, I O'd on CD44 on my BFP cycle. It can happen for us long cycle girls!
I just went off of BCP in Sept and had a 69 day cycle. My doc put me on Provera and AF came as soon as I finished the dose. Provera can help to kick start the body until it becomes regular. Some women don't get AF unless they take RX. Hopefully that is not the case with me. Can't be sure until next month though.
Go ahead and take the Provera. 4 months is a long time with out AF. I would wait on the Clomid thing though. Sometimes it just takes some time for your body to regulate itself after being on BCP for such a long time.
Good luck!
