HypnoBirthing/HypnoBabies Successes?

I'm a bit late in the game to do this (now at 38 weeks) but I finally received my HypnoBirthing book in the post and started reading straightaway. I'm only about half-way through, but SO unbelievably motivated and looking forward to everything in more positive terms.

I realise there is a reality to this that it just may not work for me, but I want to give it a go and see what my body is capable of...despite the stories I hear of all the pain and agony, etc.

Is there anyone here (on this board...or lurking) that has tried this method and found any success/positive outcome?

I really want to see for myself and prove I can do it, but I'm finding the more I talk to people who have had poor/negative experiences, the more I have to defend my desire to believe it is possible to pull it off with a different result than they had (namely my SIL & her fiance saying how much pain they "know" I'm going to be in ).

Just looking to see who has had good experiences with this and other forms of natural childbirth...

Re: HypnoBirthing/HypnoBabies Successes?

  • I did Hypnobabies with my first. Unfortunately, I had a long labor and then pitocin, and I gave up and got the epidural. I would say the techniques did not really work for me, but I did labor at home for 36 hours. With my second, I kept meaning to pull out the Hypnobabies materials but never made time. I read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth for the positive birth stories. This time around, my labor went much quicker and I did go natural. I think it's hard to explain but it's one of those things where you never know what is going to work for you. I dilated to 7cm at home and it wasn't terrible. It was around 7cm that I started feeling the urge to push and that was tough. I think the best thing you can do is seek out positive natural childbirth stories and prepare yourself for the different possiblities. I had back labor (ugh) and never realized what the urge to push was going to feel like because of the epi with my first. I made it though and felt awesome afterwards!

Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like I will have to look for hers again after Monday with the recent movement of people removing their siggies.

  • I used it and found it worked VERY well for me!  I have my birth story posted on a different board HERE, along with a review of the Hypnobabies home study course as I went through it.  I'd be glad to answer any other questions you have... I'd definitely consider myself an advocate of Hypnobabies... it worked well for me!

  • I read up on hypnobirthing and took a Bradley class. I then used different techniques that worked for me to accomplish a natural childbirth. I'd recommend just getting you and your SO comfortable with the different breathing, pressure point, relaxation techniques from HB and Bradley in order to have a whole arsenal of tools to work with while in labor. You never know what will work for you. I was able to really focus in and breathe through the very end and, while the pain was very bad (I won't lie), I did it!
