Multiples

A multiples board! YES!!!

My husband and I just found out that we're having twins, a boy and a girl, at our 18 week ultrasound on Wednesday!  We feel so fortunate, and had a blast knocking the wind out of our family and friends with this news.  We'll certainly never forget Thanksgiving 2009!

As much as I find myself crying with joy, though, I keep breaking down when I can't work out solutions to the big questions right away.  Can we still afford child care?  Should I still work?  How long until this house is too small?  I'm not looking for specific answers right now, but that's where I'm at, joyous and terrified all at once.  I'm guessing anyone on the board knows exactly what I mean!

Anyway, I'm glad to find this board and look forward to getting to know more moms in my boat!

Re: A multiples board! YES!!!

  • Welcome to the board! It's a wealth of twin knowledge here. If you go through the previous posts on this board, you'll see there's lots of common twin questions that have been answered.

  • I just looked at some previous posts after I posted this, and I already feel a little better.  Until now I've felt like my husband was the only one around to really understand the feelings I'm having.

  • haha... dude. I assure you, when I saw two HBs, m first response was, "Oh hellno, get them out."

So yea, we get it :P

  • Congratulations!  We also found out about our (boy/girl) twins at our 18 week ultrasound and were completely stunned.  What you're feeling right now is completely normal.  I cried A LOT in the first couple of days after finding out -- not because I was unhappy, but because of the shock of it all; it was a huge mental and emotional adjustment. Of course, we wouldn't have it any other way and we're so excited to meet these little ones in under 8 weeks.

    Congrats again and enjoy it!

  • welcome! I understand the terror and excitement (x3!). My husband and I are just doing the best planning we can and trying to remain flexible about the future...although I want to go back to work, I also know it may not be possible for awhile.

    keep us updated!

  • We did IVF and although we put to embryos back in - we were still frozen w/ questions when we found out we were having twins.  This board IS a God-send, b/c although, they'll be plenty of people in your life to give you baby advice, no one really understands about the twin thing like fellow MoMs.

    Congrats!

  • welcome and congrats~! Wow- that's late to find out- must have been a shocker!

we all freaked out when we found out it was twins... i still freak out now and then re: money, the size of our house (which is OK for us now- but when they boys are bigger, etc- ugh!)  You just do it ;)

Get Dr. Luke's book on being pg with twins - you are far along and need to take extra precaution with a twin pg - not the same as a singleton- so finding out this late in the game you want to make sure you are doing good with weight gain, etc.

  • Welcome and congrats!  I have had all the same feelings as you.  It's normal.  :)

  • Ditto on getting Dr. Barbara Luke's book, What To Expect When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads - it's the multiples "bible" on how to take care of yourself and your babies.

    Congratulations!

  • Totally normal. Even though we did IVF, so we knew the chance was there, there is nothing that prepares you for the moment that you see that there really are 2 babies in there. Nothing.

As I've told several people, I fluctuate between total excitement and sheer terror at the idea of being a twin mommy several times a day. The ladies here have been invaluable in helping me get my feet under me and helping me to see that I really CAN do this. Trust me, if I can do this, you can too.

     Welcome and good luck!
