I don't get lurking

Not people from other boards, but these people who never post here and when they do, seem to *know* everybody. Skeeves me out.

I'm not a super avid poster. But when I'm on, I post.

It's also weird the topics that compel people to finally think - OK now I'll post!

I'm glad the incident turned out OK last night in the end.

Just pondering message board dynamics...

Re: I don't get lurking

  • And , I didn't sleep at all last night, either. We're going to Portland for Thanksgiving weekend (leaving in a few) and I just know I am going to feel heartbroken the whole weekend. Poor Christopher. Poor Ketamarie.Crying

  • I am guily of lurking and not posting. And I know lots of the girls on here because I posted lots when we were all on the tri boards together. I just lurk a lot at work, but eitehr don't have anything to add or don't have time to reply.

I'm trying to post more and lurk less

  • I can't get on from work, so the only time I am on is after DD goes to bed for the night or during the weekends, so usually I read stuff that happened during the day and post if there are active posts I feel I can particpate in.

  • See I feel like I lurk more than post, but its not like people don't know me.  Well I am pretty sure they only know me by my daughter Lucy, and not because its me;...but still, they know me :)

  • I sometimes lurk and don't post.  I can only get on occasionally at work and I can't post there, and after I get DS down at night, I am usually hanging out with DH.  I actually read/bump a lot at night when I can't sleep, so I feel like I know what's going on, but by then, not many people are actively posting.  I'm trying to be more active on here lately.
  • Sort of the same thing.  It's hard for me to get on during the day ... so by the time I read up on posts, there doesn't seem to be any point in posting.  No one will read it because the last response was 12 hours ago or so.

Plus I often don't have much that is constructive to say.

  • I meant the people who post with like 10 posts to their name total yet know everything.

I lurk on my IPhone too b/c I can't post from there for some reason.

  • Eh. I lurk more than I post -- it takes awhile to catch up on reading posts before I decide which, if any, I'm going to respond to.

Plus, I don't tend to post unless I feel like I've got something to contribute that hasn't already been said.

There is a way to get around the iphone thing. I don't know how to do it, but I know I have seen posts on how to do it. For sure Amanda on the DFW board knows how to do it.

    me too!

I spend so long catching up or just reading posts I can relate to or gain advice from that I'm too late to reply.

  • To post from your iPhone you need to go into settings, then safari and then turn java off.
  • I've lurked a lot more than I've posted. I try to post but sometimes I feel intimidated or that anything I add to the conversation will either be 1) attacked or 2) ignored. LOL. I'm trying to post more often.
  • I don't have time to sit at my laptop, since DS is such a handful these days. So I mostly lurk on my iPhone, which is a PITA to post from.
  • I don't get to post as much as I used to, but then again, I don't even get to lurk as much as I used to :)
  • I lurk alot because I'm mostly on after DS goes to bed and read through older posts that aren't really active anymore.  Sometimes someone's already said what I want to respond to a post with so I don't bother.  I don't lurk be creepy stalkerish I just find that I don't have much to post sometimes or nothing interesting to say.  Also, I just starting coming on more often so my posts will probably start to increase a bit.
