Speaking of starving your kids...

Why is it that everyone always wants to chime in on how to feed LO. I don't know how many times I've heard "he wants to eat that, why don't you just give it to him".  MIL thinks we don't feed him enough. One of my best friends (who doesn't have kids) is always trying to feed DS stuff that I don't want him eating.  Like having him "taste" candy on halloween or something off of her plate.  It's crazy....

Re: Speaking of starving your kids...

  • I am constantly getting "advice" on feeding DS! My family was dying because we waited until he was about 5.5 months to let him try his first food. They thought I was SO mean.

  • Yeah I don't get it.  How is it mean to wait?  LO doesn't know what they're missing, waiting to start solids until LO's GI tract is completely developed (5-6 months) can prevent allergic reactions, and why is it their business anyway?  I'm worried about this coming up at Thanksgiving...

  • I don't know. I am lucky b/c MIL doesn't butt into our parenting & most friends don't either, but seriously... I have turned into a witch and just say, "unless you have a medical degree or carried this baby in your uterus, I've got it covered, thanks."

I already warned DH about people trying to feed him at Thanksgiving.

  • My SIL's DS ( now 3) was given all kinds of stuff by his great grandparents and grandparents when he was a baby. Soda, Ice cream, mashed potatoes etc etc. No one would listen to SIL when she asked not to give him that kind of stuff. I already told my DW when we have a LO and anyone tries to give them stuff like that, I will go off!! ha ha

  • just wanted to show my solidarity, mamijam.  i'm starving a kid too :)

our DCP can't believe we send such small bottles (4oz BM) while all the *other* kids get 8 or 9oz bottles (FF).plus both the DCP and MIL are appalled that we haven't started solids yet. DD isn't ready, and we're following her lead.

Mami, I have to say - that is the nice version of what I say out loud! The second half refers to delivery & the anatomy used. Shuts them right up Stick out tongue

  • At Easter last year we were all out to eat & FIL kept insisting that DD was thirsty & needed water because she kept reaching for my water glass.  Now that she can communicate.. he mentioned it again the other night (he's visiting), and we told him that she'll let us know when she's thirsty. He seemed peeved & acted like we are letting her thirst.

    Idiot.
