Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Question about Baby Orajel

Hello everyone!  DS has been teething for a few weeks now but the past couple of days have been a nightmare.  I want to give him Baby Orajel to relieve the pain but am so nervous after reading that babies can stop breathing, etc.  Have any of you tried the Baby Orajel?  If so, did it work?  Any side effects?

Thanks!!

Re: Question about Baby Orajel

  • Haven't tried it because I heard they can choke on their drool when their mouths go numb.  We use chiller toys.

Btw.. your ticker says your 59 weeks pregnant. That's quite an accomplishment.

Yeah, I give him chiller toys too but they don't seem to be helping!  I just noticed my ticker - hahaha!!  I should be in the Guiness Book of World Records!!  LOL

  • I use it, Nothing goes wrong. but i only put a little bit and only on the front teeth
  • DD has a tooth that is about halfway in and has slowly been coming in over the past week and a half. She is beyond miserable in the evenings and will sometimes just screams hysterically. When she is obviously in pain and teethers aren't working, we will give her orajel and I put just a small amount on that tooth and the gum area right around it. I don't see how this would make her choke or stop breathing, since I am not numbing her entire mouth. She makes an ugly face because I don't think she likes the taste, but after that, she is a MUCH happier baby.

  • We used it but it hurt DD's tummy. If you want an alternative, Hyland's teething tablets are great :)

I almost bought Hyland's......wish I did now.  I'm going to try the Orajel later once my husband gets home, just in case.  If it doesn't work or I see that it affects Jackson in any way - then I'll switch to the tablets.

    Thanks everyone!

  • I tried this on my own gums (the baby kind)...and I accidentally got some in my spit and it kind of numbed my throat.  I can see how it would be a problem with LO's.  If you do use it, use a tiny drop, about the size of the tip.
