HSG - For those that had one

My RE said he prefers to do one between CD 5 and 10, but could only get me in on what should be CD 12 or 13 (I have very regular cycles and it easy to predict).  He didn't want to wait another cycle (which is fine with me).  He told me to abstain from sex or use protection prior to the HSG so we can be sure I am not pregnant. 

My question is:

After the HSG, can I have sex right way or will that cycle be a bust?  I ovulate on CD 15-16 usually.  Stupid question - Does the HSG affect the follicles that may be waiting for ovulation?  Will I not ovulate a viable egg?

    I'm having mine this coming cycle as well.

    I don't know specifically about sex soon after, I'd think you could be a tad crampy and the dye my still be leaking out.  I guess everyone would be different. 

    In general, however, the cycle of your HSG can be it, because the procedure can unblock anything microscopic in there.

    Most radiologists will not perform an HSG after CD10 (mine full out refused and I had to wait for the next cycle).

    I'm not sure about abstaining after the test and whether the dye and radiology affects the egg. I do know I was not allowed to have sex for 48 hours after the HSG, to prevent infection.

    I think you'll be fine.   However, the cycle of my HSG - my ovulation was delayed by 17 days!   Not all people have this problem though.  Just keep charting

    You can have sex right away. I'm not sure if you'd want to. I was really crampy and just felt pretty gross for a few days after- with the dye leaking out etc). I'd opt to have it done on the earlier side so you won't be worrying about it. The HSG should not affect the follicles or anything, most people ovulate on time.

    You should be able to have sex right away afterwards.  Assuming you ovulate after the HSG (considering yours may be a bit later than normal), there is always a chance of pregnancy.  Some docs say there could be a greater chance since the HSG sort of blasts your tubes open.  Didn't work for me but you never know.

    It shouldn't affect any follicles you may be developing at that point.

    2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!

    Thx everyone!  I think I will stick to the appointment even though it is a little on the late side.  I will make sure that I am not pregnant by using condoms so no worries there. 

    Hopefully CD 12 (the HSG) to CD 15/16 (Ovulation) will be enought time for me to stop feeling gross!

    Not to contradict everyone, but they told me to abstain for a day after mine. Not sure if that was just so the dye could all come out or what.

    Not sure about O as I haven't yet -- but I'm sick so that could screw mine up as well.
