Does anyone else eat minced meat pie????

My family (mom, sis, aunt and I) LOOOOOOVE mm pie.  My BIL and DH HATE it.  I was just wondering who else likes it...it's not a very popular pie but it's SOOOOOO good.  Wink

  • Isn't minced meat pie a traditional English food?

    Isn't your DH English?

I've never had it before, but I'll try anything once. Wink

  • The only person I have ever known who liked it was my great-grandfather. My parents would have to hunt down a minced meat pie every Thanksgiving just for him. He'd have one slice and then he'd take the rest home with him.

It's not actually made from meat, right? It's just some fruits and berries?

  • I am the oddball of the family and absolutely hate any kind of fruit pie. The only kinds I like are pumpkin, peanut butter and cream pies.

  • I have never had it and until now always thought it was made from meat.  LOL

  • No, I don't think Minced Meat Pie is English.  Shepard's Pie is.  Everyone I know who eats MM Pie is southern.  We used to always have it before my grandmother passed away.  This reminded me of her. Smile I don't know if I would have liked it.  It was called Minced Meat so I refused to eat it.  Given the ingredients, I probably would have.  Nobody has made it since, my mom was the only other person to eat it.
  • not something that I'd even try, knowing what's in it.

  • I've had it, it's ok. I don't make it or wouldn't seek it out but if that was one of the choices alongside coconut cream pie, rice pudding, or peach pie - I'll go with the MM.
  • We have it every year and I like it.  mmmmmm.

No there is no meat in it.

  • Not a fan, but my ILs love it.  They are the only people I know in the whole world who don't like pumpkin so they always have mincemeat Stick out tongue.
  • H's family eats it; they're British.  I've had it once and it was OK, but I prefer a more decadent dessert (cheesecake, chocolate cake, etc.).

  • My grandfather LOVED it, so it was always on the menu -- I used to have a little piece, but it was never my favorite.  He was Irish/German, if that matters...I really miss him around the holidays.
