would the dr put me on a travel restriction for work?

I feel like this sounds stupid, but sometimes my dr isn't the most forgiving with stupid questions so I feel safer asking here first. I don't travel out of state, but in any given day, I can be in the car driving up to an hour and a half one way, then return home. Three hours total in a car. And, sometimes more if I have to make multiple stops - sometimes I'm just bouncing from one meeting to the next all day long, with long drives in between. I get totally car sick even though I'm driving. Also, the dr has warned me that if I'm going anywhere out of town, like for the holidays, to make sure I bring a copy of my last updated medical with me in case something happens and I need to get to a hospital. While my work travel probably doesn't count for "out of town", can I get away with it? Think my dr would put me on a travel restriction for "long" drives? I hate being in cars now!!

 TIA

  • My dr gave me a 50 radius once I reached 20 weeks. Not sure if it based on time in the car or he just wants me close enough in case something happens. You should ask your dr, and don't worry, its not a stupid question.

Actually, no question is a stupid question, you are carrying multiples! You should feel comfortable asking your dr anything!

  • I don't think it's a bad question.

I do think you are a bit early for a doc to put travel restrictions on you.  Have you talked to your boss about it? You may want to start there if you can.

I had to travel 1 hour each way to work or to my doctor.  By the time I hit 27 weeks my doc did talk about putting me on modified bedrest so I self-reduced my travel and started WFH 4x per week.  I went into the office 1x per week and it was the same day I was traveling in for my weekly doc appts anyway.

  • my job has me in the car all day long- i'm a drug rep- so i drive all day and go in and out of buildings all day long- my OB told me to expect to leave work between 24-28w.  I ended up going out on leave at 27w - no restrictions, but just to "take it easy" which I did - and i made it to 38w with my twins.  By 27w it was getting really hard- so i'm glad i went out then.... and that it helped me to cook them so long.
  • I asked my perinatal doctor about my commuting yesterday and he said he's recommend cutting it out at 28 weeks.
  • Like flying there is a risk of blood clots in your legs while traveling that much in a car daily, so I would def talk to your doctor about it.
