cold sores....what can I do/take

So I am waiting for a call back from my Dr.'s office but am wondering what is out there that I can take/do for a cold sore that popped up this morning...I have used Abreva in the past and have a partial from an Acyclovir prescrip that worked wonders.....can I use these?

Re: cold sores....what can I do/take

  • I ended up getting 2 coldsores in a row during the first of my pregnancy and the Pharmacist advised me that both Abreva and cant remember the name of the prescription kind but I think it started with the letter Z.. anyways, they said both were fine to use during pregnancy.

If you can't get a hold of your Doctor right away, I would suggest contacting a Pharmacist.

    Good Luck!

  • im no Dr. but you can still take acyclovir while pg.
  • i know this sounds crazy, but try carmex chapstick. i used to get cold sores all the time, and once i started using carmex on a daily basis, i have not had one (knock on wood.) plus it really helps clear them up quickly while you have them too. good luck!
  • I've had four since I found out I was PG.  Nothings worst that feeling sick and looking sick with cold sores.  I would take a prescription before I was PG but I can't any longer.  I use abreva, but I was doing some reading to find out, if you catch it right away to put hydrogen peroxide on it.  Mine dried up with in 2 days!  Good luck.  Kind of curious about acyclovir
  • Update from the Dr. Office....they said Acyclovir is okay to take....
