Dr.'s office asked me to leave w/ a dirty diaper.

Re: Dr.'s office asked me to leave w/ a dirty diaper.

  • It is considered bio-hazard material, that's why drs. offices don't want you leaving it in a trash can - our pedi told us if we had to throw it out in the exam room, we could dispose of it in the bio-hazard can...

  • Wet or dirty diapers, I am to leave on the counter at DS's Pedi's office.  They just don't want the smell in the op.
  • I am kind of surprised that people expect nurses/medical assistants or doctors to accomodate their child's waste. I guess I'm in the "my kid, my problem" camp. I think it smacks of entitlement to feel that leaving a heaping pile of crap somewhere is ok. Especially in those tiny rooms. And boo to the person who changed the kid in an exam room. That's what a bathroom is for.

What counter? Lord I hope its not the one where you are checking in/out and making appointments Ick!  If so i hope they wipe it down like 100 times a day.

Our pedi just has a rule of no throwing out any diapers in their garbage.  I understand, but it can be frustrating.  And, at the risk of sounding snotty (which, hopefully I don't), you're not supposed to throw human waste in the garbage anyway.  Even with sposies you're supposed to put the poop in toilet, otherwise, it's going in the landfills.

i wonder how many people actually follow that rule?  probably not enough...

Truthfully, I might consider it if his poop were solid enough... it's always a big gunky mess - how am I going to get that in the toilet?

Yeah, DS too. I'd seriously need a spatula.Ick!

i get it. we've used disposables on occassion and the poo does stick quite differently than it does to CDs.  i just wonder how many people actually know that poop is supposed to go in the toilet.

  • I don't think it is that wrong not to want you to leave behind a poopie diaper. Our pedi office asks that you dont. My plan would be to flush the poop and take the diaper. No big deal.

  • My pedi's office has the no poopy diaper rule as well.  I am surprised that at 15 months this is the first time you are encountering it.  I think it is no big deal.  It would smell up the place, plus according to them - it is a an OSHA requirement.  I think it is so the nurses and doctors aren't exposed to whatever could be in your child's poop.

  • There are so many disgusting diseases and stuff that can be transmnitted via poop and they can't assure every parent is using the safety protocol. I don't really want my 18mo having pink eye because there is an open poopy diaper in the trash.
  • I'm sure this will jinx me but I have never had a poopy diaper at the pedi office and if I did I would never leave it behind for someone else to dispose of.
  • imageGRKaters:

Really?! I've never heard of a doc's office not "accepting" poop. I've always tossed dirties into the step-can (yes, I keep blue smelly bags in the diaper bag) and never thought to ASK if it was ok. There is no signage saying otherwise.

Same here. Although DS doesn't usually have a lot of poopy diapers and I think they have only been wet ones when we've been there.

  • weird...I had to put DSs dirty diaper in a little ziploc bag they had and then through it right into the trash in the room.

ETA: both my kid are in cloth diapers so I take all dirtys with me.  It's really not a big deal.  I don't want to take care of your kids diaper so I don't know why you would expect a nurse/dr office to take care of it for you.

  • I think it's courtesy not to leave a dirty diaper in someone's office.  When I was an office manager, I would have been bothered having to sit in my office all day long smelling someone's dirty diaper.

I carry plastic baggies in my diaper bag so I can bring home dirty dipes (I won't leave them at friends houses either, unless they have kids in diapers, then I ask what they want me to do).

Our doctor's office has a note on the garbage bins asking that we don't throw poopy ones in there also.  No big deal.

  • Our pedi actually has a rule that prohibits diaper changes in the exam room!  I always wonder how the heck they expect parents to comply with that when we have to remove DS's diaper for weight checks and other exam necessities.

  • Our pedi's office is the same way.  I thought it was kind of weird, especially since they are doctors who CATER to KIDS.  But I didnt say anything about it.

  • Yeah, it's a law (here, at least) that you have to take them with you. Blech. Our ped office supplies zip lock bags to put them in, at least.

Today was DD's 15 month shots. I'm not a big fan of the new nurse and today just confirmed my dislike of her.

Right when we got there DD pooped so I of course changed her diaper. Trying to be considerate I asked if there was a seperate garbage they wanted me to throw it away in. The nurse said to me..."We ask that you don't throw those away here, you need to take it with you."

I said, "You want me to take a dirty diaper with me? Is there a garbage outside?"  Nurse said, "No there is no garbage outside, but you can't throw it away here."

So out I went carrying a sobbing toddler, pushing a stroller, and carrying a foul smelling diaper.  ***! It was one of those moments that once I got to my car I thought of so many clever things I should have said to her...dang itSuper Angry

honestly that's gross. I always have those little dirty diaper bags with me in my car and every diaper bag just in case. You can get them at target and bru and they are cheap. I think it's rude to want to throw a nasty dirty diaper away some place for others to smell. What if you were at a department store or a friends house, would you think they would be okay with smelling their house up with baby crap smell?

Our office has the same policy and at her 1 week appt. she did poop.  They gave me a plastic zip lock to take it home.  They don't want the smell and if every parent did it it would.  I don't really blame them.

Same here.  I carry bags, but they've always given me a Ziploc if I wanted one.  No biggie.  I don't want to smell other kid's poop either.

This is pretty typical of any doctor's office. They don't want their office and other patients to have to sit around in stink.

Well you learn something new everyday.  I had never heard of this. I've never had to carry a dirty diaper with me...how lovely:)

You NEVER carry a bag for dirty diapers?  Please tell me you're not one of those people who leaves dirty diapers in the grocery store parking lots!  =/

  • That is weird. At my Ds's ped office, they always ask us to change his diaper before they weigh him and they always have me just toss it in the trash can in the room. This is weird to me.

And sorry, but LMAO at you guys who think its *rude* to leave a poopy diaper in a garbage can.

I'm guessing the same number of people who know that you're not supposed to flush tampons down into the city sewer.

I guess the only reason I really know is from the research I did before buying our CD.  Otherwise, I had never heard of it.  As for the sticky poop thing, it does stick differently in disposables, but I use toilet paper when it's sticking bad.  Obviously, you can't always get it all, but some is better than none, ya know.

  • I would never try to throw away a dirty diaper in their trash, honestly I think it would be rude to do so. Everyone would have to smell it all day.

  • I have little blue scented bags to take a poo poo diaper home with me.  I tie it up in a knot and put it in the diaper bag.

I also carry big zip lock bags too.
