Success after IF

99% ABnormal Sperm Heads

Weird title, I know, but it's the truth. My husband has 1% morphology and almost all of the heads are messed up. Every other parameter is great. We are meeting with our RE a week from today. He is recommending that we do IVF at this point. Has anyone had success when 99% of the heads are abnormal?

Re: 99% ABnormal Sperm Heads

  • We had 2% morphology and almost all of my DH's sperm had tail defects.  IVF #1 with ICSI worked for us!  Wishing  you the best of luck!!

  • We had 0% morph, low molitily, sperm penetration issues and as it turns out, DNA issues.

We got pg on our first IVF!

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • I'm not sure what the primary problem with our morph was, but we had 1% morph on both SAs, and IVF w/ICSI #1 worked for us. We had great embies, too.

  • we were told 1% as well, I believe it was tail issues, or just general poorness all around, can't remember.

I've saved a few links of discussions on this, although I don't know if there's much on shape specifically, it's a ton of links within links within links. happy reading! ;-)

  • My husband has 0% morph but we were just told that he had no "normal" sperm but not if it was an issue with the head or tail.  We did have a DNA fragmentation test done which was normal.  Our first IVF worked and now surprise, I'm pregnant with no help at all.

    Good luck to you.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Thanks for the responses.  My husband also had a DNA fragmentation test that was normal which I was relieved about.  I'm just hoping that we can have our own kids.  We had quite a few setbacks last week - negative beta from my first IUI, no improvement in the second SA after varicocele surgery, and I have a cyst so they had to cancel my second IUI cycle.  We're both feeling pretty hopeless lately.

  • My DH has/had very poor morph and we were told IVF with ICSI would be our only chance, but we ended up getting pg on our own the month after our RE told us this.
