is it okay for baby to sleep...

in a bouncy chair?

he is only 5 days old, but seems to hate sleeping in the bassinet in the pack and play or the crib...I think he doesn't like being laid down flat on his back. (in the hospital the nurses always put his little crib up on an angle, too) So, we discovered yesterday that he sleeps great in his bouncy chair. We have the FisherPrice My Little Lamb seat. (We buckle him in, and put blankets under each side of the 'ears' in order to better support his head) Last night I let him sleep in that and he actually slept the 2-3 hours between feedings really well. (as opposed to the night before where he was waking up every half hour in the bassinet)

 I know that he should be sleeping in a crib/bassinet on his back to reduce the risk of SIDS and what not. But is it okay if I have him sleeping in the bouncy seat or should I just deal with waking up every half hour until he gets more used to sleeping in the bassinet? My cousin said that she had her baby sleep in his car seat for months because that is the only way that he could sleep, and I know that I've read of other people who say that their babies will only sleep in a swing for months as well.

Just looking for some advice as to if we should continue to let him sleep in the bouncy chair or not?

    Let him sleep where he will sleep. Worry about everything else later. Molly slept in her bouncy seat or our bed when we first brought her home. She still sleeps in our bed.

    I fold up a blanket and lay Mckenna down in the crib so that her upper back and head are elevated.

    I wouldn't suggest letting baby always sleep in the bouncy seat unless you're ok with him doing that ALL the time. It just doesn't seem safe. I could be wrong though.

    Our pediatrician said at this point they can sleep where they will sleep. She said bouncy, swing, car seat, whatever as long as she sleeps.

    My baby sleeps in his boppy on our bed. I feel better about having him closer to me. Plus it cradles his body well.

    If it's the incline that he prefers, you might consider putting a pillow UNDER one end of the crib or bassinet mattress. Lying flat on his back might be causing him a little acid reflux. Do you swaddle? The lamb chair (we have it too, and love it) is a little more snuggly, so he might benefit from feeling like he's in a hug-hold all night.

    This is what we were told as well. She slept in bed with us & in her crib in her car seat during that first week (now she will snooze in her crib but for the most part we co-sleep since we EBF and we all sleep better this way).

    At 5 days old, let him sleep how he will sleep. We have the Graco PnP and DD slept in the newborn napper station in that, which was curved up at the head and feet. We finally made the crib transition at 3 1/2 mo and I think it was harder for her because she had to transition to sleeping flat. I have a friend whose LO slept in the carseat until 8 weeks and she also really struggled with the crib transition. So down the road, you may want to break the habit before it becomes harder. But for now, do it, and get yourself some sleep.

    Perfectly fine. Just make sure he is strapped in. Right now it is all about survival and if that is where he is happy then I would leave him be.

    I'd say sure... just keep an eye on him, of course.  When DD first came home, she would not sleep in her bassinet for a few nights.  She would only sleep on my chest, which of course was dangerous, but my pedi said to let her sleep where she'll sleep and that she will adjust eventually.  After a few nights, she did. 

    You could always wait until he is in a deep sleep and gently move him to his crib.
