Attachment Parenting

Anyone seen "Away We Go"?

I just watched this movie, and really liked it... But I can't decide whether I loved or hated the way they portrayed attachment parenting. It was great to see attachment parenting in a movie, and hilarious how "extreme" they were - but I worry that it just perpetuates some of the negative stereotypes associated with attachment parenting... Has anyone seen this movie? What did you think?

  • They believed in the continuum concept- which CAN be AP, but isn't exactly the same.

I thought it was hilarious. I make fun of myself all the time saying lines from it now.

Plus, they WERE nuts! I'm pretty AP (IMO), but breastfeeding somebody else's child? You have to be pretty out of touch with reality to think that's okay! And LN? lol not to mention, they were flat out racist. I had no problems laughing at them! But, I laugh at myself quite often too :)

  • I haven't seen it, but I just watched a trailer for it and it looks like it could be a make for a few good laughs.

  • It's next on my Netflix list!
  • I liked the movie.  I think that the whole cast, especially the main characters, were progressive and had AP potential.  To me, it just seemed like they were making fun of extremism and "know-it-all-ism" more than they were making fun of AP.  But I also think that you're right - it perpetuates stereotypes for those unfamiliar with it.
