Since a lot of you ladies have GD, I was wondering what a typical day of eating looks like. I am worried that I won't pass my GTT test when it comes around. What does your GD diet include? Just curious :-)
I have been on my Gd diet for a few weeks already. The one thing I have to watch out for is carbs. I can only only have 15 carbs per serving for my snacks that are 3 times a day and then only 30 carbs for my breakfast, lunch and dinner.of course I have to try to stay away from anything that has any white flour in it and I must eat stuff that have whole grains. Its not to bad once you get the hang of the diet and what you can eat and what you can't. Once you starting monitoring your blood sugar levels you will get a idea of what you can eat and what you need to stay away from. Also you have to watch your portion size also. Good Luck!

I was just diagnosed with GD Wed and met with the Diabetes Counselor today. The diet is much better than I expected. It is strict in terms of having 3 meals + 3 snacks, portion sizes, proper balance of protein/carbs/fat, and when you check your blood sugar level (4x/day). BUT it allows more foods than I expected. Pretty much everything (within reason) I was eating pre-diagnosis is allowed as long as the portion is measured and I count it toward one of the categories.
I am also pg with twins. I think we're allowed more foods per snack and meal. I seem to be allowed to have more than most I've read on here, but I also haven't gained weight in 3 weeks and am supposed to gain an additional 20lbs (55 total). Tonight I was even allowed 1/2 cup of ice cream with dinner. The dietician said that 50% of their patients need meds and since I'm having multiples, my chances of not being able to control it with diet are even higher. The whole thing is disappointing but I know I've got a great medical team, and I'm determined to do whatever I must to have 2 healthy LOs.
Breakfast - no fruit, dairy, cereal, juice. 30g carb - so usually 3pc light toast with pb (esp. since I am now on low sodium diet, the egg mcmuffins I was making don't really work.)
Lunch: sandwich with a yogurt and a piece of fruit.
Dinner: casserole, chili, etc.
Best things to include: brown rice, whole wheat pasta, lots of tomatoes (more bulk - less sugar than tomato sauce) swap black beans for other beans (lower carb and higher fiber), etc.
My favorite dinner: Taco chili
1 can corn, drained
1 can black beans, rinsed thoroughly and drained
1lb ground turkey or lean ground beef
2 lg cans diced tomatoes, with juices
1 packet taco seasoning (low sodium/low msg)
1 packet ranch dressing mix
Brown meat, drain, and pour taco seasoning over. Toss to coat. add to crock pot or large pot. Add all other ingredients, adding ranch last. Simmer on stove til heated through or on low in crock 6-8hrs.
Variations: add 1lb cubed Velveeta. Serve with cheese and sour cream on top. Serve with taco chips. Use leftovers for burritos or chili dogs. Freezes WELL!!

As you can see my diet includes all foods!! : ) Portion control is definitely key, though. It's really not as awful as I imagined it would be... but there are moments when I get pissed off when I can't just go and get a peanut butter chocolate shake or something, don't get me wrong!
