3rd Trimester

I've heard of co-sleeping, but seriously???

My friend just ad her DS a month ago and I found out yesterday that he won't sleep alone so they sleep with him, no big deal. BUT the kicker is they drag a mattress into their living room and camp out in there b/c their 3 little yappy dogs sleep on their bed in their room and they dont want them to upset the baby and vice versa. Seriously? Kick their little butts out and sleep in your own dang room! So hard for me not say something to her but I am being good. Zip it!

  • Wow. Definitely no romance going on in that relationship...
  • I couldn't imagine dragging a mattress out into the living room every night. That Sh!t would get old. My DH wouldn't take that crap from a dog. He would be like I am the master of the house and you will sleep where I let you sleep and you will like it!
  • OMG!!! that's so stupid! lol
  • there is NO WAY that would fly in our house.

  • That is pretty crazy! I have a friend who still sleeps with their 5 year old son and they just had a baby a few months so now the family of 4 all sleep together. Seriously I dont know how they even got pregnant again.

    ditto!

  • If they give into their dogs like that and already getting into the habit of letting LO sleep with them... I'm afraid....
  • Um yeah, the dogs need to go!  I will NOT sleep in the living room to make my cat comfortable, I pay the bills, not her!  I wonder, will they give LO the master bedroom if he says he can't sleep in his room anymore when he gets older?????

This!  I don't think I'd sleep on the floor so my dogs could have my room!

Only if the dogs are willing to share the bed.

This is one of the reasons why I refuse to co-sleep. By age 5 a child really should be able to sleep on their own. My cousin co-slept with her kids and they had a really hard time getting them out of their bed. I also think that everyone's sleep suffers.

I have a co-worker who does this with her 3 yr old and 1.5 yr old.  The good news is that the husband can finally move back into the bed from the couch where he slept almost the whole first year of both kids lives because she co-slept with the babies 'because it was just easier'.  Then for a while, the 3 yr old would only sleep on the couch with her dad at nights.  So weird.

  • I have zero intention of co-sleeping, but to be fair to those who do, if you do it right, the child does not sleep in bed - they are in a co-sleeper next to the be to make feeding (presumably BF'ing) easier.

  • I'm not against co-sleeping... while nursing or for the 1st year.

Once a baby is no longer needing to eat full time during the night, or hits 1 year, they need to move into their own room. I doubt these kids who co-sleep till they are 5 have much independence, and really, are you going to let them do it till they move out?

  • My little dog sleeps with us, but if I had to choose between being comfortable in my own bed with my LO or having to make special accommodations for my dog...sorry 'Cuda bear, but you'd be out in your bed in the living room.  Not vise versa.

My mom co-slept with my sister and that was the biggest mistake.  My sister didn't start sleeping on her own until she was 8 years old.  My parents sleep in separate rooms because my dad snores so bad.  But yeah, probably number one example against co-sleeping for me.

  • I didn't intend to co-sleep...and we didn't start until DS was over a year old and we moved into an apartment and he would cry for hours at night if he had to sleep in his new room.  I felt like the neighbors were going to kill us, so it started.  He's now almost 5 and goes to sleep in his own bed most of the time.  It's about a 50-50 chance that he'll crawl into our bed sometime before morning.

Thta being said, there is no way that I'd change the location where I sleep...and definitely not so that pets would be comfortable.  That just sounds crazy to me.
