It's not the law in Texas, so she didn't break any laws. It's still unbelievably irresponsible, IMO.
I'm certainly not proud of it, i'm happy it ended up working out for us and i don't regret my decision, but i do believe the law in TX is 20 pds AND a year, if so yes i broke the law.
You say that you are not proud of it and it made you sick, yet you have brought it up at least twice on the board. I find it very selfish, and thank God he wasn't hurt.

I'll answer because i really don't care what anyone else thinks/says about my parenting choices. I switched DS when he was 10 months old, he was well over 20 pds and screamed his head off RF and it was driving me crazy, i felt trapped in my house, so we switched him. Here's a pic of the day we did it, life was SOOO much easier.
Wow. I don't have a problem with people making their own parenting decisions...but turning him before 1 year? That's the law, and his safety. Obviously you're entitled to do what you want, but I totally disagree with this.
Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm really not trying to flame but I really disagree with this. Even if it's not the law in Texas, it should be.
I just want to add that my DS hates the car and has a really hard time on long trips. We deal with it whether it's both of us or just me.
My DS would probably have that look on his face if he was sitting on my lap with no seatbelt on... it doesn't mean I'm going to do it...
We hope to RF until 2yrs or 35 lbs, our conv. car seat limits. I was sent this from a friend, it has a rare happy ending but has some good facts...he also lists where he got his facts. I am glad I watched it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8gU9zzCGA8

No it is the law! My child screams FF now at 19 months but that does not mean I am going to take her out of her car seat because she wants to get out. I am sorry Rhi but I just can't wrap my head around your justification.

i've said it twice because i think there are a lot of others out there or on here that have worried about doing something similar that wasn't Nest/Bump approved and getting flammed to high hell for it or thinking that they are the worst parent ever. Perhaps some might think i am the worst parent ever for turning ike around 5 weeks before he turned a year old, but for the most part i think i'm a pretty kick ass mom and i think we are all trying to do our best and shouldn't be made to feel like scum because of someone else's insecurities.

We turned at 19 months when he outgrew the height limits. If he hadn't he'd still be rear facing. What really helped ds be happier was us getting a portable DVD player for the car. We used it RF and FF.

You say you aren't proud of it but you have posted about it at least 4 times, and most of the time in a bragging kind of way.
You got lucky but I really don't think you should be advocating something so dangerous.
*sorry my quote function messed up*
sorry if it came across as bragging, i really felt nervous about it, however i felt less apprehensive about flipping him than i did about driving anywhere with him. and with that, nap time is over so i must go.
I'm not trying to pile on Rhi, but the first time I saw you post this my eyes about popped out of my head.
It has nothing to do with insecurity, just horror at the thought of a potential senseless tragedy. And Ike is not a big baby at all. I'd be very surprised if he was over 20lbs at a year.

It has nothing to do with insecurities, and EVERYTHING to do with safety guidelines and actual crash test information.

You are not being made to feel like scum because of someone else's "insecurities", you are being called out for advocating ILLEGAL actions and thinking your inane justifications will give you a pass.
You did something illegal and you're bragging about it - man up, nancy, and take your punches like an adult. You are SO lucky you didn't get a ticket because of it, but don't advocate it like it's perfectly okay to do. It's not, and you were wrong to do it, no matter how much Ike screamed. Newsflash - T screamed probably just as much if not more, but she was NOT turned until 13 or 14 months and well over 20 pounds. Even then I didn't want to turn her but my car may get wonderful gas mileage, the payoff is that the air circulation SUCKS and Tessa wasn't getting any relief from the air conditioning at all. You were irresponsible.

Eh, what is the point of arguing something that has already happened. She is well within the law now and you cannot rewind and change what happened a few months ago. The only thing you can accomplish here is making someone feel like crap.

Oh seriously, STFU. What's more dangerous? A screaming child that distracts you? What a crotchwaffle.

lol. Are you old enough to have a baby, sweetie?
LOL. Because that's original, sweetie.
Wasn't striving for originality. Were you striving to lose any point you were attempting to make by resorting to "crotchwaffle"? Because if so,

Funny, I wasn't trying to gain any points from you, crotchy. Nor do I give a ratsass what you think. Thanks, though!
Do not let people on a message board make your decision for you. Do what is best for your daughter and your family.
And I completely agree with this.
and to those going, "We are keeping them till they are 2 because it is SAFER AND BETTER". Way to pass judgment.
But it IS safer; you can't argue otherwise. And safer is better.
Yep sorry, I agree. It is a personal decision I agree, and I won't judge a parent for turning their child FFing with the law. I do believe like a lot of things research is important before you switch though, and you can't dispute that. A parent that isn't educated in the importance of RFing is making a poor choice. If you did the research and feel it is "better" for your child to be FFing because you think their screaming is going to make your crash then fine. I can't promise I will keep my DS RFing until 2 or 35lbs but I will try my best. I can handle the yelling and screaming he gives me from time to time, just knowing if I were to crash he would be in better shape than if he were FFing.
It is also "safer" to keep my child wrapped up in bubble wrap, but it doesn't mean i do it. I must be horrible! Judge away.
Actually if you wrapped your child up in bubble wrap they could suffocate how is that safe? Just curious how people find ERFing so over the top? How do you compare it too bubble wrap?

Sh!ttin' bricks.
You shouldn't use that word. Sorry. Sh!ttin' rocks.
Yes, I am sh!tting rocks over having this debate everyday. Not the OP's fault though.
Those are DPS recommendations, not laws. There is nothing in the Texas Code about rear-facing.

Can't we just talk about breastfeeding?
lol at all this.
Oh, better yet - formula feeding vs. breastfeeding. w00t!
Poison, indecent exposure, blah blah blah.
I almost brought this up, LOL! Cause you know.... it's better.
pre-cisely what I was thinking!
or elective c-sections instead
You are absolutely right. I honest to God thought there were RF laws in TX and there aren't. I appologize Rhi.

This is a weird crusade you have.
I've stayed out of this today. Mostly because I've been busy today. But, thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one.
This is probably the stupidest thing I've seen someone say on here in ages. ?Congrats!
